Whether you are fresh out of high school or looking to earn a degree later on in life, the process can be challenging. You might have a field of interest, but there are so many different career choicest choose from. Health is a great option, but it certainly has many routes that you can take.

In this article, we are going to talk about eight different job paths for those interested in health. Sound interesting? Then keep on reading!

Dentist

A dentist or dental surgeon specializes in oral health. Their role is to help prevent and treat certain conditions, but there are also some cosmetic services that they offer as well. If you are thinking to yourself, “What does it take to become a dentist?” the answer to your question is a lot. You’ll need to enroll in a bachelor’s degree, earn a DDS or DMD degree, and obtain licensure so that you can operate in your chosen state. It’s a lot of work, but with an average annual salary of $214,777(Indeed.com 2020), it’s certainly something to consider.

Pharmacist

If you don’t think you can handle operations and surgery, then becoming a pharmacist might just be the perfect option for you. While it does require a lot of hard work and accuracy when handing out prescriptions, it’s an excellent job for those looking for a more managerial position. The average salary sits at $113,745 a year; however, you can make more or less depending on your yearly experience. If you are interested in getting started, take a look at getting a major in pharmaceutical sciences.

Doctor

One of the main careers that those interested in health wish to pursue is that of a doctor. One reason for this is because there are so many different fields you can enter, from becoming a surgeon to working in pediatrics. You also have the potential to make a substantial salary, but again, this depends on what area you choose to study in. However, keep in mind that it requires quite an extensive degree and frequent on-going training like many of the jobs on this list.

Nurse

A lot of the time, nurses are under valued. Without them, hospitals and medical centers simply wouldn’t be able to operate. Not only do they take care of patients, but they also ensure that the whole place runs as smoothly as possible. Just like doctors, there are different fields that you can look into, all with different salaries. However, you still need to start off by earning a four-year BSN degree.

Medical Transcriptionist

If you are after something a little different but still in the health care field, then a medical transcription might just be the choice for you. These tech-savvy individuals transcribe patient information and doctors’ notes into text with their incredible fast typing speed. One of the main benefits of this job is that you can choose to work from home and freelance. It’s perfect for those after a more flexible career.

Clinical Laboratory Technician

The role of clinical/laboratory technicians is to carry out routine and laboratory tests to treat certain disorders and diseases. Unlike doctors and nurses, these individuals don’t spend too much time with patients and instead pass on their findings to the correct individual. Their work requires a lot of training and skill and is heavily influenced by science and mathematics. While it might not be for everyone, it’s excellent for those that want to work in health without too much interaction.

Home Health Aide

home health aid is an individual who cares for individuals with specific disabilities, chronic illnesses, or age-related problems that still want to live in their homes. While some do live on-site, others will come and go through out the day to ensure that they are taken care of. This includes hanging dressing, giving medicine, bathing, and taking care of any medical equipment they may use. It can be a very difficult job, but also extremely rewarding at the same time.

Optometrist

Optometrists take care of any conditions involving the eyes and help individuals with their overall eye health. They prescribe glasses, spot defects in vision, and may even take part in certain surgeries. They earn around $128,721 a year and also have some great benefits such as insurance, paid time off, and a flexible schedule.

And that’s it! These were eight different job paths for those that are interested in health. What do you think? Would you be interested in any of these careers?
