Familiarise-Yourself-with-All-the-Changes-and-Misconceptions

The JEE Main examination is all geared for new changes brought about by the HRD Ministry of India. Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE Main examination. Also, it will hold the exam through online mode only. The HRD minister, Sri Prakash Javadekar confirmed these changes during the press conference held in July 2018. Anyhow, there still lingers a lot of doubt in the minds of candidates who are deemed to appear for the JEE Main 2019.

About the Examination

The JEE Main is an important entrance examination in which millions of students appear. These students seek admissions in engineering and architectural courses after Class 12th. This article deems to clear the air off the obscurity of misconceptions surrounding the exam. It also brings the expected changes to the limelight.

What is NTA?

National Testing Agency is an autonomous self-sustained premier test organization. The NTA will look after the conduction of entrance examinations of higher educational institutions. The cabinet approved the creation of NTA on November 2017. The body has taken over the conduction of exams formerly carried out by CBSE. Thus, from 2019, the NTA will conduct all the examinations such as JEE Mains, NEET, UGC NET, GPAT, and CMAT.

What Changes Has the NTA Made?

Familiarising oneself with the forthcoming changes will help the students in preparing robustly for the exam. As known, NTA will be responsible for conducting the JEE Main exam from 2019. It will also perform the job of allocating seats for the exam. Meanwhile, we have mentioned the expected changes to be brought about in the examination, below.

The NTA will conduct the examination twice a year

As mentioned earlier, the National Testing Agency will be responsible for conducting the exam. As per reports, the JEE Main, from 2019, will be held twice a year. Furthermore, the NTA will hold the first exam in January and the second, in the month of April.

The NTA will perform the job of slot allocation

The NTA, an autonomous body, will solely allocate the slots. Moreover, the slot allocation will completely depend on “First Come First Serve” basis. Hence, we recommend the candidates register themselves for their slot booking preference. This, they must do as soon as the authorities release the application form. The slotting process will begin simultaneously as the application forms are released.

Exams will be completely online

The NTA will conduct the exams only in online mode through the Computer Based Test (CBT). It will hold the examination through a computer-based software. The software doesn’t require an internet connection. Moreover, the computer systems enabled with exam-specific software will completely secure all the answers marked by the students.

Note: (For Paper II of Architecture, the agency will conduct the Mathematics and Aptitude tests through Online Mode. Similarly, it will conduct the Drawing test through the Pen and Paper Mode.)

Candidates may choose to appear in any one exam in a year or both the exams

Candidates have the provision to appear for the examinations either once or both the times in the year.

The NTA will use the marks for preparing the list of admissions for AIR

It may happen that a candidate appears twice a year for the examination. Hence, the NTA will use the best marks out of both the exams for calculating the admission list and AIR.

The agency will conduct the mock tests at practice centers

To acquaint students with the CBT mode of examination, the NTA has set up various Test Practice Centers (TPCs). It has set these centers for the candidates to take up practice sessions. There are in total 3,400 Test Practice Centers across 622 districts. The mock tests will follow the same pattern as that of the actual JEE Main examination. Candidates can take up the examinations at the TPC starting August-end or September start.

There are no changes in syllabus, exam pattern, the medium of language or examination fee structure

Apart from the mode of examination and the allocation of slots, there is no revision in terms of syllabus, exam pattern, the language of question papers for answering as well as that of the examination fee structure.

The NTA will make an announcement for seats as early, as possible.

Misconceptions About the Examination

Misconceptions regarding JEE Main 2019 and the respective clearances about them are as follows:

The questions asked in CBT mode will be difficult in comparison to Pen and Paper Mode

There is no change in the difficulty level of examination. The NTA has predefined the questions and has kept their level the same as that of other modes.

Candidates need to hold profound knowledge of computers

No, the candidates need not hold any proficiency in computers. However, knowing how to click and move the mouse is enough criteria.

Candidates can change the responses after the completion of the examination

Contrarily, no one can access the answers after the examination. The test or any part of it cannot even be accessed by any student once the exam is over.

Loss of answers due to power failure

The Computer Based Test works on a real-time basis. Thus, as soon as a student marks or changes an answer during the exam, the computer system records the response. However, the candidate must ensure to press the “Save Button” in order to record their response. Failure regarding this, will not be counted as an answer.

The CBT mode of examination uses internet for recording answers

No, the NTA conducts the examination using computer-based software. This software does not require the internet for recording the responses. Moreover, as mentioned above, the computer systems completely secure all the answers.

Now, we hope that the students have well-versed themselves with the expected changes in the JEE Main 2019. We also hope that they would have cleared their misconceptions regarding it. Therefore, now it’s time to perk and set forth for cracking the CBT model of examination by availing mock test. Finally, it also is the time for acquainting oneself well with the changes made and described above.
