SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination
The Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level examination, popularly known as SSC CGL, is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission. The commission, founded in 1975, staffs the employees for various ministries, departments, and organizations under the Government of India. Candidates for Group B and C are selected via the combined graduate level exam that the commission conducts.

Notification for SSC CGL 2018
The SSC notified for the CGL 2018 exam on May 5, 2018. The Tier I level of the exam, earlier to be held on the month of August, has been postponed. Consequently, the commission will release new dates for the Tier I exam in future. The dates for the Tier I of the SSC CGL 2018 have been postponed. Yet, the SSC CGL 2018 aspirants can view the revised annual calendar of exams held by the Staff Selection Commission for 2018 – 19.

Changes in SSC CGL 2018
- Firstly, the time-limit for attending objective multiple choice questions (computer based online test) of Tier I is 60 minutes. Earlier it was 75 minutes.
- Secondly, for maintaining a healthy, transparent environment for all the candidates, the commission introduced the process of Normalization from 2018-19.
- Lastly, the Commission shall have the discretion to fix minimum qualifying marks in each component of the Tier-I Examination.

Solving Tied cases in SSC CGL 2018
In case a candidate obtains a tie of his/her marks, from all the three exams of Tier I, II and III, merit will be decided by applying following criteria, one after another, till the tie is resolved:
- Total marks of Tier-II Examination of all the candidates.
- Total marks in Tier-III Examination of all the candidates.
- Final marks in Tier-I Examination of all the candidates.
- Consideration of the Date of birth of the candidates, with older candidates, placed higher.
- Alphabetical order in which the first names of the candidates appear.
SSC CGL 2018 Online Application
To begin with, the process for applying for the SSC CGL exam has begun from May 05, 2018. June 04, 2018 is the last date to apply online for SSC CGL 2018.
How to Apply for SSC CGL 2018
Firstly, to take the exam, the SSC CGL 2018 candidates first need to register themselves on the commission’s official website. Meanwhile, we present the steps to register/apply online for the exam:
- Firstly, visit the official website of SSC CGL 2018.
- Next, press the “Apply” button specified on the page of the official website. The action will result in an opening of a new window.
- Then, click on this “New Registration in SSC CGL 2018” window. Follow this by pressing the “Register” button.
- SSC CGL 2018 can now start their registration, by filling in their details like their names, guardians’/parents’ names, email id, their DOBs, mobile numbers etc.
- Lastly, press the “Submit” button for saving your online application/registration form of SSC CGL 2018. Here, we would like to advise the candidates to check their details they have filled in before submitting the form. After filling in these details, the commission will issue Registration IDs to all the SSC CGL 2018 candidates. This registration Id will be needed in logging in the future, along with their DOBs and passwords.
And the Photographs, Signature Et All
- Furthermore, follow the submitting procedure with uploading of scanned images of your passport sized photograph and signature. The details regarding dimensions, uploading size etc. for these images have been described below.
- Then, complete the part II of the registration/application process of SSC CGL 2018 through the registered ID and password provided to you by the commission.
- Also, follow the complete filling of the application form with a review of it for any errors. These may be the errors that you may have produced by mistake. If the candidates find any error(s), we would strongly advise them to correct it there itself. This is so because the commission will provide no chance to make corrections in the application/registration form.
- Follow the complete review of the SSC CGL 2018 form with pressing of the “Final Submit” button.
- We would strongly advise the candidates to download and obtain the hard copies of their finally submitted application form. This printed copy will come to use in future, in case an error occurs in the period following application-submission.
- Finally, the candidates need to pay the fee for the exam through online or the offline (bank challan) mode.

More Details
- Firstly, the photograph of the applicant must be a recent one. It must be a passport-sized colored picture.
- Secondly, the picture should be in color, against a light-coloured, preferably white background. Candidates are advised to look straight at the camera with a relaxed face.
- Then, if the picture is taken on a sunny day, have the sun behind you. Also, you can place yourself in the shade, so that you don’t squint your eyes. Also, there must be no harsh shadows.
- If you have to use flash, ensure there’s no “red-eye”.
- If you wear glasses make sure that there are no reflections and your eyes can be clearly seen.
- Finally, remember that caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed but it must not cover your face. Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred).

SSC CGL 2018 Admit Card/Admit Certificate
- Firstly, the concerned regional/ sub-regional offices of the commission will upload the admit card/certificate on their websites.
- Secondly, the commission won’t issue the admit card/certificate by post, for any stage of examination.
- Then, availability of admit cards will begin 1 week earlier from the start of the exams.
- It may happen that a candidate fails to find his/ her details on the website of the commission, one week before the date of examination. In such a case, he/ she must immediately contact the concerned regional/ sub-regional office of the commission with a proof of submission of his/her application.
- Finally, the SSC CGL 2018 candidates must visit the websites of the regional office and SSC HQs regularly. This they must do to make themselves remain updated and informed about the examination.

Vacancies through SSC CGL
As per the Central Government, it will produce an employment for 2.2 lakh people via the staff selection commission. The most of these vacancies will be in the departments of Income Tax and that of the Excise and Customs. Moreover, these vacancies will amount nearly to 70,000 wants. Also, each year, nearly 14 lakh candidates take the SSC CGL exam. The commission had held SSC CGL exam for 2016-17 for 4500 to 5000 vacancies. Later, this strength was grown to 9000. Similarly, the total number of vacancies for SSC CGL 2017 was 8089. But, vacancies for SSC CGL 2018 haven’t yet been notified. We shall announce the same as soon as it gets published by the commission.
Details of SSC CGL 2018 Exam Centers
- To begin with, the SSC has notified about the various exam centers spread in the nation in its notification. These exam centers are spread across 9 regions that cover every corner of the country.
- While preferring for the exam centers for a region, an SSC CGL 2018 Exam candidate can have 3 options. Moreover, the candidates need to prioritize their exam centers. We advise the candidates to remain careful while doing so. This is because, they won’t get any chance to correct their mistakes in preferring their centers, later.
- Usually, it is the best effort of the commission to provide a candidate, the exam center of his/her choice. But, the commission also reserves the right to scrap or suggest replacement of any of the asked centers by the candidates. And this decision will be based solely on its discretion.

Points of Importance
- Firstly, Paper I and II are must for all the candidates.
- Secondly, Paper III is meant only for Statistical Investigator Gr. II and Compiler
- Then, Paper IV is meant only for Assistant Audit Officer
- SSC CGL 2018 Tier 2 exam will carry negative marking.
- Answering 1 question as false will result in the deduction of 0.5 marks in Paper I, III and IV. 0.25 marks will be deducted for paper II.
- Also, Difficulty-level of Paper 1 will be of class X standard, of paper 2 it will be of class XII. Similarly, that of paper 3 and 4 will be of the level of graduation.
- Moreover, the commission will provide the computer at the venue/center allocated for the exam.
- Candidates must not bring their own keyboards to the exam center
- Lastly, the duration of the exam is 2 Hours and 40 Minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.
Tier III Pattern
- To begin with, it is a descriptive exam that tests written skills of the SSC CGL 2018 candidates in English/Hindi.
- The commission conducts the exam offline
- Also, the exam is qualifying in nature
- SSC CGL 2018 candidates need to write letters, essays, precis, applications etc.
Points of Importance
- Firstly, the total score for the exam is 100 and the duration is 60 minutes.
- Also, for the visually handicapped candidates or those suffering from cerebral palsy, the duration of the exam is 80 minutes.
- Finally, the level of difficulty is that of questions of 10+2
Tier IV Pattern
- To begin with, the exam tests certain skills of the SSC CGL 2018 candidates
- It has two skill tests
- Also, the DEST (Data Entry Speed Test) tests the candidates other than those opting for the post of the compiler. It tests the typing speed of the candidate. In this test, the candidates are given the printed material in English which they should type accurately on a computer with a minimum of 2000 (two thousand) key depressions. The duration of this test is 15 (fifteen) minutes.
- Also, the CPT (Computer Proficiency Test) is a qualifying one. It tests the computer proficiency of the candidates through 3 modules – spreadsheet, word processing, presentation through slides.
How should the candidates prepare their preference for posts in SSC CGL 2018?
Firstly, the SSC CGL 2018 candidates don’t need to fill the preference of their posts during the filling process of the application form. That is needed during or after the verification of documents. So, the candidates will need the plan for preferring their posts for 33 designations. One should go through the information thoroughly before filling up the choices at the time of recruitment under SSC CGL 2018. Also, one needs to consider the factors of job profiles, salary, promotions, growth, location, and various other factors while doing this. - Also, an SSC CGL 2018 candidate requires to be fit as far as his/her physique is concerned. This standard should be that for an inspector. This is because there are some designations of inspectors like those by the names of Central/State Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer. Similarly, Sub-Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and sub-inspector in NIA (National Investigation Agency) will require the same standards of health and physique.
