About Food Engineering
Definition
“A lot is happening in agriculture and food engineering, it is a never ending area for innovation.” ~Sravanthi Budaraju
Food processing is the transformation of raw ingredients into food, or of food into other forms. Food processing typically takes clean, harvested crops or butchered animal products and uses these to produce attractive, marketable and often long shelf-life food products. Food engineers, also known as agricultural and food scientists, combine engineering concepts with microbiology, chemistry and other sciences to create the best ways to make processed foods tasty, healthy and safe. They’re responsible for every step of food production, from production to distribution.
