Deep Kalra- The pioneer of online travel in India, Deep Kalra founded MakeMyTrip in April 2000. Drawing on his experience from his years at GE Capital, AMF Bowling Inc., and ABN AMRO Bank, under his stewardship, MakeMyTrip has become the largest online travel company, as well as the largest e-commerce business in India. Deep is a member of the Executive Council of NASSCOM and chairs the NASSCOM Internet Working Group. He is also a Charter Member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) and serves on the Board of TiE, New Delhi. Deep is also a member of CII's Tourism sub-committee and a regular speaker at numerous internet and travel conferences across the world. Nirmal Jain
Nirmal Jain- IIFL was founded on Oct 17, 1995, by Nirmal Jain. Jain is among the few successful entrepreneurs post the economic liberalization era in India, ushered by PV Narasimha Rao. Jain got his start in 1989 at Hindustan Unilever Ltd., where he worked as a commodities trader. In 1995, he founded an equity-research firm now known as India Infoline, or IIFL Group. He opened one of India’s first online-trading websites in 2000 and later diversified into life insurance and mutual fund distribution, equities and other financial services. Today, the group has 13,000 employees and offices from Switzerland to Mauritius, according to its website. Jain drew foreign investors including a unit of Toronto-based insurer Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., which is IIFL’s biggest shareholder.
Vijay Mahajan
Vijay Mahajan- He is an Indian social entrepreneur and the Founder and CEO of the BASIX Social Enterprise Group engaged in livelihood promotion of low-income households in over 20 states in India and six developing countries. He is also the President of Micro Finance Institutions Network (MFIN) of India. Vijay's first job was at the electronics multinational company Philips in a marketing position. He worked there for four years, mostly in the Northeastern and Eastern India. His work took him to several industrial project locations in the hinterland where he encountered visible poverty. This fuelled the early interest in rural development and poverty alleviation he had developed while still at the IIT Delhi. Having heard of the Jawaja Rural University Project launched by the founder and former Director of IIMA, Prof Ravi J. Matthai and Prof Ranjit Gupta, Vijay decided to study at the IIM Ahmedabad. Two years of study and working with them made up Vijay's mind that he would like to work in rural economic development full-time and he has been doing that since 1981. After graduating from IIMA, he joined Dr NCB Nath, a visiting professor at IIMA, and carried out studies for the Government of India on the rural woollen handloom industry and on the effect of technology choice on mining communities. But Vijay left this after a year as he was keen to work at the grassroots and not as a consultant.
