Class XII Equivalent Examinations: JEE Main

Examinations accepted as Class XII or equivalent for JEE Main

An important requirement for appearing for JEE Main is that you must have passed a Class XII or equivalent examination that includes the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, without which you would be deemed ineligible for admissions to the famed Indian Institutes of Technology.

List of Qualifying Examinations

1. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ stateBoard, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
2. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
3. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
4. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
5. Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
6. S.C. vocational examination*.
7. A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3 year duration*.
8. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced A level*.
9. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate*.
10. Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva*.

In case the relevant QE is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level. * indicates that these examinations can be used only as acceptable Class XII equivalents for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology, and not for JEE Main admissions.
