JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Main is one of the most coveted entrance examinations in India. Regulated by the CBSE board, it is a gateway to B. Tech and B. Arch programmes offered by reputed institutions like IIITs, NITs among others. JEE Main examination is also the qualifying examination to appear in JEE Advanced examination, which in turn, is the gateway to IITs, one of the most sought-after institutions in India.
What’s New in JEE 2017
- Class 12th marks will not be considered for calculating JEE Main Rank from 2017 onwards.
- There are no minimum criteria for the 12th percentage for appearing in JEE Main 2017 exam.
- Candidates who wish to gain admission into the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other institutions should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
- All the Indian citizen candidates should possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main)–2017, the candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data. In case, these particulars do not match, the candidates will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main)–2017.
Eligibility
Following are the eligibility criteria for the examination:-
Age Limit: The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1992, for general category and October 1, 1987, for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
Cut- off date: Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination only in 2015 or 2016 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) as subjects are eligible to apply. Candidates who have passed Class 12 in 2017 are also eligible to apply.
Subjects: Students should have minimum five subjects in Class 12 or equivalent examination.
The number of attempts: Students are permitted to take the examination thrice only.
Qualification: Class 12 qualified and also Diploma holders are eligible to apply.

Application form
- Candidates are required to fill the application form through online mode only.
- The last date for filling the application form is 2nd January 2017
- Candidates can fill one application form only. Multiple application forms will lead to rejection of candidature
- There is no need to send printed application form to the CBSE board
Application Fee
The application fee can be paid through two modes, online mode (debit/credit card) or offline mode (e-challan of Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank).

JEE Main Form Correction
- Candidates will get the chance to make the correction in the application form.
- Correction period will be announced for one week in the second half of January, 2017 (Tentatively).
- Only selected and permitted entries may be modified.
JEE Main 2017 Examination Pattern
The JEE Main 2017 exam pattern for paper I and Paper II is given below:
JEE Main Paper I:
- Courses: It is held as a competitive entrance exam to engineering courses (B.Tech/BE).
- Number of Questions: It consists of 90 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
- Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- Language: Hindi, English, and Gujarati. All candidates will be given the option to write the JEE Main exam in English or Hindi except for candidates from Gujarat, Daman & Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli who can opt for Gujarati.
- Mode: It will be commenced via both online and offline mode.
- Duration: 3 hours. (4 hours for the PwD candidates)
- Marking Scheme: 4 marks for each correct response.
- Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response or multi-responses.

JEE Main Paper II:
- Courses: It is the entrance examination for Architecture course. (B.Arch).
- Number of Questions: It will consist of 82 questions (MCQs).
- Subjects: The questions will be framed from subjects as Mathematics, Aptitude, and Drawing.
- Language: Hindi, English (candidates can select while filling the application form)
- Mode: It will be conducted via offline mode.
- Duration: 3 hours. (4 hours for PWD candidates)
- Marking Scheme: 4 marks for each correct response (2 questions of the drawing will carry 70 marks).
- Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect or multiple responses.

JEE Main 2017 syllabus
JEE Main 2017 syllabus will comprise two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. JEE main paper 1 is the entrance examination for the B.Tech (Engineering) while paper 2 will be the entrance for architecture (B.Arch).
JEE Main Paper 1 Syllabus:
The JEE Main paper 1 will be composed of all theory topics from three subjects of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
JEE Main Paper 2 Syllabus:

Minimum marks for inclusion in ranks
The cut-off list shows the minimum marks that candidates have to score for admission into the undergraduate level programmes. Every year, the cut-off list is declared by the conducting authority after the result declaration. On the basis of the cut-off and rank list, candidates will get admission in IITs and ISM Dhanbad. The cut-off list for 2017 will be prepared on basis of following factors:
- Total number of candidates who pass JEE Main 2017.
- Total number of candidates who apply for JEE Advanced 2017.
- Total number of candidates those appear for JEE Advanced 2017.
- Difficulty Level of Exam.
- Previous year cut-off.
