JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Main is one of the toughest competitive examinations regulated by CBSE to shortlist candidates for the top engineering colleges in the country. Admission to B. Tech/ B. Arch programs in NITs, IITs and other esteemed engineering colleges is given on the basis of the score obtained in JEE Main exam while admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology is given on the basis of the marks scored in JEE Advanced. The marks obtained in JEE Main determine whether a student is eligible to appear in JEE Advanced or not.

About the Exam
JEE Main Paper I
- The candidates will be tested on three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- The paper consists of a total of 90 multiple choice questions.
- It will be held in both online and offline mode.
- The duration of the exam is 3 hours. For those with 40% or more disability, the duration is 4 hours.
- 4 marks are given for every correct answer and 1 mark is subtracted for each incorrect answer.
- While filling the form the candidates can choose the language as either Hindi or English.
JEE Main Paper II
- This paper is held for admission to the Architecture course (B. Arch).
- The students are tested on three subjects namely – Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing.
- It has a total of 82 questions of which 30 are from mathematics, 50 from aptitude test and 2 from drawing.
- The duration of the exam is 3 hours. For those with 40% or more disability, the duration is 4 hours.
- 4 marks will be given for each correct answer and 2 drawing questions will be for 70 marks.
- 1 mark will be subtracted for every incorrect question.
- While filling the form the candidates can choose the language as either Hindi or English.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible to appear for this exam the candidate must fulfil the following criteria:
- For the general category candidates, the date of birth must fall on or after October 1, 1992 and for SC, ST and PwD candidates, it should fall on or after Oct 1987.
- Candidates must be appearing for or should have passed class 12th or equivalent examination in the year 2015 or 2016 with PCM.
- Candidates must have a minimum of five subjects in class 12th/ qualifying examination.
- Only 3 attempts are given to clear JEE Main exam.
- Those who have a Diploma of 3 years can also sit for this exam.
- From this year round the weightage of class 12th marks will not be taken into consideration for calculating the JEE Main score.
- There is no minimum class 12th percentage criterion for appearing in JEE Main 2017.
Application Form
- The application form will be available from the first week of December 2016.
- Candidates can fill JEE Main application form 2017 only via online process.
- Only one application form can be submitted per candidate. Submission of more than one application form will lead to rejection.
- The printed form need not be sent to the CBSE Board.
- Candidates will get a chance to make corrections in the application form.
- Correction period is for one week and it will likely be announced in the second half of January. After this period, the corrections in the form will not be entertained.
- The fee payment for the application can be done via online mode that is debit/ credit card as well as offline mode that is e-chalan of Syndicate/ Canara/ ICICI/ HDFC Bank.
