Clinical psychology is a broad branch of psychology that focuses on assessing, diagnosing, treating and preventing mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), severe stress etc. The main function will be to help patients effectively cope with their conditions and/or situations. Clinical psychologists are experts in psychometrics, or psychological assessment.
Clinical psychologists may provide general psychological treatment or choose a practice area based on a specific patient group, disorder or condition. Clinical psychologists work for medical organizations but they are not doctors and can’t prescribe medications. Clinical psychologists focus extensively on psychotherapy and treating emotional and mental suffering in patients with behavioral intervention.
