About Physiology
Definition

Physiology is the scientific study of normal mechanisms, and their interactions, which works within a living system. A sub-discipline of biology, its focus is in how organisms, organ systems, organs, cells, and biomolecules carry out the chemical or physical functions that exist in a living system. Given the size of the field, it is divided into, among others, animal physiology (including that of humans), plant physiology, cellular physiology, microbial physiology (microbial metabolism), bacterial physiology, and viral physiology.

Salary in Physiology

Physiology Role Models
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov- He was a Russian physiologist known primarily for his work in classical conditioning. He proved to be an exceptional student and won prestigious university awards. He went to the Academy of Medical Surgery to further his education in physiology. He became a laboratory assistant to Professor Ustimovich at the physiological department of the Veterinary Institute in 1876 and held this position till 1878. He became a lecturer in physiology at the Military Medical Academy in 1884. Pavlov won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1904, becoming the first Russian Nobel laureate and was awarded the Order of the legion of Honour by the Medical Academy of Paris in 1915.
Bert Sakmann
Bert Sakmann- He is a German cell physiologist. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Erwin Neher in 1991 for their work on "the function of single ion channels in cells," and invention of the patch clamp. Bert Sakmann was Professor at Heidelberg University and is an Emeritus Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg, Germany. Since 2008 he leads an emeritus research group at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology.
