JEE (Main) is one of those exams that sees a huge number of candidates compete in, every year. It is the major hurdle that a student aiming for an engineering degree from one of the prestigious institutions of the nation has to tackle to achieve her goal.

Eligibility
Note that for the states of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, the age limit, for admission to institutions in these states which were earlier admitting candidates based on their state level examinations, will be as per their past practice. The number of attempts in such cases will also be the same as past practice. This is not applicable for admission to centrally funded institutions like the NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs.
Application Process
All application for JEE (Main) 2017 will be made online, on jeemain.nic.in. Keep scanned copies of signature and photo (with the name of the student and the date of photo taken appended at the bottom of the photo). Although the CBSE allows the use of black and white photos for the application, it is recommended to use colour, as a lot of issues with contrast and poor photo quality on scanning can be eliminated. Please make sure that as a student, you have your own mobile number and e-mail ID, so that no important notifications are missed at any point in time.
All India Rank List
The AIRs will be the sole consideration for allocation of seats via CSAB (Central Seat Allocating Board). All other ranks mentioned in the score sheet that will be made available upon JEE (Main) result will be for the purpose of information only. The All India Ranks will be on the basis of higher mark obtained in JEE (Main) 2017, and in case there is a tie, the following tie-breakers are adopted.
JEE (Main) 2017 Paper 1
- The student having a higher mark in Mathematics for this paper gets allocated the higher rank.
- If the tie is not broken after condition 1, then the student having higher marks in Physics will be allocated the higher rank.
- If the tie still remains unbroken, the ratio of positive to negative marks for each student is considered, and the student with the higher absolute ratio is allocated the higher rank.
- In case none of the above criteria can serve as tie breakers, the students in question will be given the same rank.
JEE (Main) 2017 Paper 2
- The student having the higher mark in the Aptitude Test for this paper gets allocated the higher rank.
- If the tie is not broken after condition 1, then student having higher marks in the Drawing Test will be allocated the higher rank.
- If the tie still remains unbroken, the ratio of positive to negative marks for each student is considered, and the student with the higher absolute ratio is allocated the higher rank.
- In case none of the above criteria can serve as tie breakers, the students in question will be given the same rank.
Syllabus and mark distribution
The mark distribution for JEE Main 2017 Paper 1 is given below. There will be 90 questions, equally distributed among the three sections, that is, 30 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. All the questions will be of Multiple Choice Question type, with the medium of the paper being English and Hindi in all cities. Examination Centre Cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli will also have Gujarati as an available medium. +4/-1 marks for correct/incorrect (or incorrect) questions.
JEE Main 2017 Paper 2 will be offline only, consisting of 82 questions, with objective questions in Mathematics (Part I) (30 questions) and Aptitude (Part II) (50 questions), and other questions to test drawing aptitude (Part III). +4/-1 for each correct/incorrect (or multiple) response, and two questions in drawing consisting of 70 marks.
Changes to application
No options can be changed at a later stage after submission of an application. However, a chance may be given to the candidates to correct/modify some of the particulars of the application form online only, with valid reasons, after one week of closing date. The candidates are advised to see the website and newspaper regularly to know the exact date when the corrections or modifications will be allowed only online.
Minimum marks for inclusion in ranks
The cut-off list shows the minimum marks that candidates have to score for admission into the undergraduate level programmes. Every year, the cut-off list is declared by the conducting authority after the result declaration. On the basis of the cut-off and rank list, candidates will get admission in IITs and ISM Dhanbad. Every year lakhs of candidates appear for the JEE Main examination. But only a few are able to qualify based on their level of preparation.
