The-Issues-with-Education-Today-1

“To me, education is a leading out of what is already there in the pupil’s soul.” ― Muriel Spark. The educational system in America was once a pillar of excellence. Okay maybe NOT a pillar of excellence but it surely was a great institution where people would go to forge ideas and to communicate and expand their own ideas. Sadly, however, over the centuries the education system started to move away from teaching people and started moving in the direction of indoctrinating people. It is a sad fact in life that most people do not and CAN NOT think critically! Here, we have brought some issues that make our educational system fail our students and suggested possible tips and corrective measures.

There is a lot that factors for the degradation of the critical thinking, such as:

Mental laziness – It is easy to blame some external event or body (not saying theta isn’t because there is too an extent). The truth is that most people do not want to think. Most people will get angry if you just ask a simple question. This is no hyperbole but the truth of life, and you can see it your self. To dare to question someone is akin to threatening them physically.

Advertisement – Many fast food chains advertise 24/7 and the thing about processed food is that it hurts one’s overall mental state. This is no hyperbole! Fast food or processed food has been shown and proven to hurt one’s overall mental capacity.

School System – Our school system does not focus on teaching kids to think critically but it teaches kids to follow and to be docile and agreeable. Why? So that they can make productive automatons for society. Yes, this is a realization and a truth of life. Most kids and people get to school not to learn how to be indent but to learn how to be workers. In this article we will discuss the 9 Ways Our Educational System Is Failing Our Students And How ThinkWave Can Help Fix The Solution.

If we don’t begin changing the way we educate students, then our free generation will surely become stagnated and move backward.

9 Ways Our Educational System Is Failing Our Students And How ThinkWave Can Help Fix The Solution

1 – Parents Are Not As Involved As they Can And Should Be

“Without education, we are in horrible and deadly danger of taking educated people seriously.” ― G.K. Chesterton.

This is easily one of the many reasons as to why students are retarding in their education. It is very easy to point the finger at the teacher and say that it is their fault for not educating their children but the fact of the matter is that a child’s first teachers are their parents.

There are far too many parents in society who take a back seat at their child’s education and pass it off to a teacher or a school. Yes, the teachers have the credentials, and they have the training to teach children but the notion of having no interest in your child’s education is an absurd idea! Parents really need to be more involved in their children’s education, and within the ThinkWave program, it is more than possible for parents and teachers to have more communication.

2 – Schools Are Frighteningly Overcrowded

“Education is not the pouring into a pail, but the lighting of a fire”― William Butler Yeats

This can be very challenging and trying for teachers who want to have a much more bonding relationship with their students. The amount of content that is crammed into the students is horrendous. Not only does it stagnates the child’s learning but it also needlessly makes the teaching process difficult. Making a class cram and then deluging the facts in these students will NOT make them think critically.

Thinkwave does an exceptional job for the students by seeing what they need to study for the month. It allows the teacher a bit more time and flexibility to look at there students’ progress. Thus, they will also have much more time to sit down and talk with their students, more effectively.

3 – There Is A Severe Lack Of Diversity

“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today” ― Malcolm X

There is not too much of a diversity in many schools. Although a child may have several subjects those are just sub-categories of the other main subjects. There needs to be an inclusion of philosophy, psychology, BUSINESS (this is crucial for helping students understand how to make money on their own), finances and so on.

The same tired old educational subjects have been taught for a decade now is leading us NOWHERE! Incorporating new subjects like business and psychology will help students to think more critically. And more importantly, it will help them to think for themselves!

4 – There is Too Limited Discussion In Class

“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” ― Socrates

To make your children be able to think critically, one of the best ways is to make them discuss ideas. Let them convert and express their thoughts through debates.

Even better is to have students debate with the teacher. This is so important because students need to know that it is okay to question authority.

Students who can think for themselves will be the leaders and the innovators of the next generation.

5 – There Are No Innovation Classes Taught (Well, Not Enough)

“Self-education is, I firmly believe, the only kind of education there is.” ― Isaac Asimov

There needs to be more innovation in classes. Students should not be told what the answer is. This spoon-feeding way of educating students is the reason why so many schools are failing our students.

Giving kids old cases of business studies or research will help them see problems as nothing more than challenges. The reason I am echoing business throughout this article is that business-minded individuals THINK CRITICALLY!

They have to think that way, otherwise, everything that they have built will come crashing down.

6 – Children Aren’t Taught To Debate But To Agree

“Spoon feeding, in the long run, teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon.” ― E.M. Forster

This is a genuine reason for so much educational decline. Students no longer debate or discuss their ideas but focus more on just agreeing with their teachers and peers. If we have learned anything from the great personalities of the world is that those who are great are great because they thought great.

This is something that needs to be incorporated in teaching manual. GET STUDENTS TO DEBATE!

7 – Higher Education Is A Financial Prison

“All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education.” ― Sir Walter Scott

College and University are now becoming nothing more than a financial prison that confines many people to a job they have a great disdain for just to pay off a loan they never really needed. The higher education system is, without a doubt, one of the most stringent loan-demanding ones, that one can borrow for. Why? Because these are the loans that cannot be forgiven. They must be paid back.

8 – Math And Sciences Are Not Seen As Cool

“You know, sometimes kids get bad grades in school because the class moves too slow for them. Einstein got D’s in school. Well, guess what, I get F’s.” ― Bill Watterson

Math and Science in America are seeing a rise in popularity but not at a rate that is too noticeable. Science and math are without a doubt some of the most important subjects to learn. Yet we have this stigma in America that math is too hard or boring!

Math is a universal language and science…science is that that has given you the phone, tablet or laptop on which you are reading this article.

# 9 – We Reward Mediocrity

“The educated differ from the uneducated as much as the living differs from the dead.” ― Aristotle

This idea that all students deserve a reward for just making their presence in the class, is one of the worst things that you can do to an arrogant mind. For many, they say, not to give them a reward breaks their spirit and that it hurts their feelings. In reality, it does the opposite!

Giving children rewards for just showing up is one of the most damaging things you can do for them! The reason for it is that it shows to them, they don’t have to do anything to get something in life. All they need to do is, just show up, and they can get whatever they want!
