IES is the acronym of Indian Engineering Services. It is one of the important examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The Commission holds this exam for availing the engineering position jobs in central government. The UPSC IES 2019 prelims examination was conducted on January 06, 2019.
Like many other countries, the Government of India also recruit candidates as its officials in various fields. The Government recruit candidates for the engineering positions on the basis score in IES Exam. For this, the UPSC conducts IES in various centers across the country. The Commission conducts the examination for filling a total of 581 vacant posts. These posts lie vacant in the engineering categories of Mechanical engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering.
The UPSC conducts the examination in three stages of the Preliminary exam, Mains and Personality test. The prelims comprise of two papers General Paper 1 and Paper II. Paper I deals with General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Test comprising of objective questions from different sections of engineering. On the other hand, Paper 2 consists of Technical paper containing passages, mathematics, and logic. Moreover, the Commission doesn’t calculate the Prelim’s scores during the final selection of the exam. Still, they make up a crucial criterion for getting qualified for the main examination.
Now the prelims are done, and the next stage is the Main Examination. Consequently, we are presenting a quick analysis of the entire paper, here, by experts. The matter below covers a good idea of what can be the expected cut-off for getting to the next level.

You can easily find this if you compare these to the questions of the previous year papers.” Talking about the type of questions asked, she further stated, “The paper I comprised of fewer questions on current affairs. These added to hardly three questions that were also very old. As for paper II, it comprised more questions which were tougher to solve.”

Paper 2 of mechanical were moderately tough and more concept based. States Ashish Kumar, another candidate who appeared for the exam through Delhi, “The questions were more concept based.
