 Are you planning to prepare for MBA? If yes, the initial step is to find out what all options you have other than CAT. Though majority of MBA aspirants appear for CAT, GMAT and other 2-3 popular exams. It’s advisable to take some other exams at the state and institute level as well, so as to increase your chances of getting into the top B-school. Read on to learn all about the top management entrance exams you must take.

1. GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)

The GMAT is a computer adaptive test which is widely accepted by more than 6000 management schools worldwide. It evaluates candidates on their Analytical, Quantitative, Verbal & Integrated Reasoning skills. Duration of the course is 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Owned by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), there is no specific dates for GMAT test. It is conducted throughout the year in 26 cities in India.

Quants in GMAT is quite easy as compared to CAT but at the same time application fee is approx 10 times of CAT. GMAT has become one of the best options for top MBA institutes like ISB, Hyderabad, SP Jain Institute of Management, Mumbai etc.

Three reasons you must appear for GMAT:

  1. The number of candidates appearing for GMAT is e times less as compared to CAT. Hence, less competition and “more opportunities” !!
  2. GMAT allows five attempts in a year. That means if you didn’t score well in GMAT, you can reappear after 16 days. If you think you are not prepared for the test, you even have the option to reschedule the test to a later date. This has to be done a week before the exam date.
  3. GMAT scores are valid for five years. However, it is advisable to use that score for only 2 years.

GMAT application fee is $250 or Rs 16000 approximately.

   2. Common Application Test (CAT)

This is the most popular entrance exam for MBA. Indian Institute of Management conducts CAT exam every year. Cat scores are accepted by all IIM institutions and several other institutes all over India. It has been stated that almost 2 lakh students appear for CAT every year.

CAT exam was started in 1950 and from 2009, it became an online entrance test. Students have to attempt 100 questions in 3 hours. The exam is held every year in Nov-Dec and registrations begins in Aug-Sept.

CAT exam has mainly three sections:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude
  2. Verbal and Reading Comprehension
  3. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

   3. Xavier Aptitude Test

It is another top entrance exam for MBA. XAT is conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur. Almost one lakh students appear for XAT every year. They conduct the exam on first Sunday of every year and the score is accepted by around 100 institutions in India. The duration of the test is 170 minutes.

XAT exam is mainly divided into four parts:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude
  2. English Language & Logical Reasoning
  3. Decision Making
  4. General Knowledge & Essay

Essay, however, has to be written once the student has been selected for admission in XLRI.

    4. Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Exam

IIFT exam is conducted at the institute level and the scores are considered only for taking admission into Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.

This entrance exam is conducted in offline mode. It has 200 multiple choice questions to be attempted in 2 hours.

Students are judged on the following parameters:

  1. English Comprehension
  2. Logical Reasoning
  3. Quantitative Skills
  4. General Awareness

  5. NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT)

NMAT is now acquired by GMAC and is hence renamed as NMAT by GMAC. NMAT scores are accepted by Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Alliance University, VIT, ICFAI, SRM, Ansal and BRM Munjal University

NMAT is conducted for 75 days between October and December. Students have to attempt 120 multiple choice questions in 120 minutes.

The best part about NMAT is they offer many student friendly but costly options. For instance, a student can appear for exam three times and the best of all three scores will be considered.

This entrance exam is mainly divided into 3 main parts:

   1. Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test (TISSNET)

This is an institute level exam conducted by Tata Institute of Social Science. The scores are used for all the programs offered by TISS.

It’s an online test conducted for 100 minutes. Topics covered are:

  1. Logical Reasoning
  2. Analytical Skills
  3. Contemporary Issues
  4. Social Sensitivity

  2. Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT)

CMAT is a comparatively new exam, was started in 2012 but has very quickly picked the momentum. Almost 1.5 lakh students appear for CMAT exam every year. It is conducted by AICTE and is accepted by more than 500 institutions across India.

This entrance exam is conducted in January every year and is held for 3 hours. It is categorized in following four sections:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude
  2. English Comprehension
  3. Logical Reasoning
  4. General Awareness

   3. Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) Admission Test

This is an institute level entrance exam conducted for admission in various management programs held at Institute of Rural Management, Anand. The exam is conducted every year in the month of January.

Students have to appear for CAT first. The shortlisted candidates are then called to appear for IRMA written test.

Students have to answer 40 questions under the topic ‘Issues of social concern’ in 80 minutes.

   4. Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP)

SNAP is a national level entrance exam for management and is conducted by Symbiosis International University. SNAP scores are accepted by all 15 institutes that come under Symbiosis International University and some other management colleges also accept SNAP score. SNAP is an online test of 120 minutes. This Exam is conducted every year in December and registrations are done until November.

Through SNAP exam, students are judged on the following parameters:

  1. General English
  2. Analytical and Logical Reasoning
  3. Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency
  4. General Knowledge, Current Affairs & Business Scenario

   5. Management Aptitude Test (MAT)

MAT is again one of the popular entrance exams after CAT which is widely accepted by more than 600 institutes. All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts MAT four times a year- February, May, September and December. MAT exam can be taken in both online and offline mode.   

Students are required to attempt 200 questions in 150 minutes. Questions are based on following five categories:

  1. Language Comprehension
  2. Indian and Global Environment
  3. Data analysis and sufficiency
  4. Mathematics
  5. Intelligence and Critical Reasoning

   6. AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA)

ATMA is a national level test. It is conducted four times a year- Feb, May, Jul & Aug and is held in both online and offline mode.

It is a three-hour test and is used to get admission in multiple management colleges. The test has following 6 sections:

  1. Analytical Reasoning Skills Part 1
  2. Analytical Reasoning Skills Part 2
  3. Quantitative Skills Part 1
  4. Quantitative Skills Part 2
  5. Verbal Skills Part 1
  6. Verbal Skills Part 2

   7. ICFAI Business School Aptitude Test (IBSAT)

IBSAT is an institute level test, conducted by ICFAI foundation. The test scores are used to get admission in 9 ICFAI Business School Centres.

IBSAT is an online test and has a window of 15 days where students can book their slot as per their convenience.

The test comprises of following four sections:

  1. Verbal Ability
  2. Reading Comprehension
  3. Quantitative Aptitude
  4. Data Analysis & Interpretation

   8. MICAT

MICAT is a institute level test conducted by Mudra Institute of Communication for a specific 2 year Post Graduate Diploma in Management- Communication.

Students are first required to appear for CAT, XAT or GMAT. Once this exam is taken, all candidates will have to appear for MICAT to be held in December.

Duration of the test is 125 minutes and has two main sections:

  1. Section 1: Consists of analytical skills, logical reasoning, verbal skills, written communication and general knowledge.
  2. Section 2: Comprises of psychometric test

   9. Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MAH-CET)

This is a state level examination conducted by Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra. It is used for admission to various management programs across Maharashtra.

MAH-CET is conducted in the month of March. Students are required to attempt 200 questions in 150 minutes. The exam is mainly divided into two main categories:

  1. Reading Comprehension and Verbal Skills
  2. Quantitative Skills & Logical Reasoning

  10. KIITEE Management Test (KIITEE MBA)

KIITEE MBA is a national level entrance test used for admission in MBA program. In 2018, this test will be mainly used to get admission in two courses mainly:

  1. MBA at KIIT School of Management at KIIT University
  2. MBA (Rural Management) offered at KIIT School of Rural Management

Students are required to answer 150 questions in 150 minutes. The test is segregated in five sections:

  1. Quantitative Analysis
  2. English Language
  3. Analytical Skills
  4. General Awareness
  5. Issue of social concern

  11. Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) MBA

This is a state level entrance exam used to get admission in MBA program in multiple colleges across Odisha. OJEE MBA is conducted every year in April-May by Govt. of Odisha.

Students have to attempt 120 multiple choice questions in 120 minutes. The test has five main sections:

  1. Verbal Reasoning
  2. Analytical Skills
  3. General Awareness
  4. English Comprehension
  5. Computer and Business fundamentals

  12. Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT)

KMAT again is a state level examination. The scores are used to get admission in various MBA courses in the state of Karnataka. The exam is conducted three times every year- May, July, and September. The registration process for the same is declared in April.

It is conducted by Karnataka Private Post Graduate College Association (KPPGCA) and the test scores can be used to apply to around 169 colleges in Karnataka. Candidates have to answer 120 MCQ in 120 minutes. The test is divided into three sections:

  1. Language Comprehension
  2. Mathematics
  3. General Aptitude

  13. Andhra Pradesh – Integrated Common Entrance Test (APICET)

APICET is also a state level exam conducted by Andhra Pradesh Council of Higher Education. The test scores are applicable for various management institutes in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The test is conducted in the month of May.

It is an offline exam and students have to attempt 200 questions in 150 minutes. There are three main categories in the tests:

  1. Analytical Skills
  2. Mathematics
  3. English Communication

  14. Telangana State Integrated Common Entrance Test (TSICET)

TSICET is a state level test conducted by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education. The test was conducted for the first time in may 2015. The scores are used to get admission in various MBA courses in Telangana state.

The exam has three main parts:

  1. Analytical Skills
  2. Communication
  3. Mathematics

  15. Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET)

This is a state level entrance exam conducted by the Govt of Tamil Nadu. Scores are used to get admission in B-schools across tamil Nadu. The exam is held every year in the month of May.

Students have to answer 100 questions in 120 minutes. The test is divided into five main sections:

  1. English Language
  2. Data Sufficiency
  3. Quantitative Aptitude
  4. Reading Comprehension
  5. Business Situation Analysis

  16. HP University Management Aptitude Test (HPU-MAT)

An institute level exam conducted by Himachal Pradesh University for their management courses. The test is conducted in May and has four sections:
