6 Methods That Completely Change the Game of Bodily and Mental Healing

Every day we hear about new gadgets helping us deal with life more comfortable. From automatic rocking cribs to Bluetooth enabled coffee machines preparing our coffee in the morning, we’re practically surrounded by modern technology. At times, it even seems impossible to have a simple life and gadget-free lifestyle.

But it’s not only the gadget department that we see accomplishments all the time; medicine has been through some changes too. New and alternative technologies and methods are developed so that patients have a better chance of healing. Even if meditation is an excellent and efficient treatment for dealing with stress, HBOT, and floatation therapy are now the methods to stop pressure building in your life.

Lupus, cancer, multiple sclerosis, addiction, anxiety, depression, or PTSD are now addressed with new and revolutionary therapies. Here are some of the most interesting to name:

1. Why HBOT (Hyperbaric oxygen therapy) as healing method?

HBOT therapy refers to putting people in a chamber or any mainly designed room and breath the purest oxygen. It doesn’t seem very efficient, but the method has been used for military divers in the United States for six decades now. It’s because HBOT therapy helps divers recover from diving-related health problems.

After being used for decades now, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has been approved HBOT for use in 13 conditions. Cancer patients going through radiation are one category to name, but people with low blood flow and arterial insufficiency can benefit too.

A fantastic discovery on HBOT efficiency comes from a recent study on military subjects dealing with PTSD and chronic blast-induced traumatic brain injury (mild to medium). For a month, they have been going through 60 minutes of HBOT sessions. Once the treatment was over, they have improved in terms of symptoms, memory, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, and depression.

But the findings on HBOT’s efficiency don’t stop from revealing. Recent studies highlight that HBOT also presents analgesic ability in neuropathic pain and inflammation. It’s why it has become a reliable treatment in holistic healing centers for solving chronic pain syndrome. Patients of lupus, PTSD, or multiple sclerosis can benefit HBOT therapy.

2. Is floatation therapy as efficient as they say?

Truth be told, we all love the idea of floating on our bodies and mind. Twenty-seven scientific studies were included in a meta-analysis by Dierendonck and Nijenhuis some time ago. The analysis showed that floatation therapy could lower blood pressure and even cortisol levels. For those of you who don’t know, a high level of cortisol means a weak immune system. People dealing with addiction, PTSD, anxiety, lupus, or cancer also struggle with weak immunity.

Floatation therapy is also great as it improves the quality of your sleep, and people with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and cancer feel tired all the time.

On top of everything else, floatation therapy has benefits for the mind. Justin Feinstein (leading neurophysics as Ohio’s Laureate Institute for Brain Research) talks about the ability of floatation therapy to reduce confusion, depression, negative emotions, perception of pain, and even the impact of severe mental health diseases.

Johnny Tabaie, the founder of the Pouyan Method (exclusively used at the Holistic Sanctuary), accentuates that “Anxiety, depression and mental health addiction-related conditions should no longer be perceived as chronic conditions when therapies such as floatation are available.”

3. Is DNA repair a viable method?

Any harm of the DNA leads to mutation, and fixing the damaging process will stop our cells from becoming cancerous cells.

More than 20 million DNA mutations in 1,161 tumors (from 14 different sorts of cancer) have been studied, and the results were published in the “Nature” journal. The analysis concluded that multiple mutations occurred in the genome’s areas in some cancer types (the skin cancer revealed the most significant variations). We should remind you that the DNA sequences count for the expression of genes, leading to the type and functioning of cells.

But that’s not the only conclusion of the study. The researchers also found that the proteins binding DNA, responsible for gene expression, caused more DNA mutations for gene promoters. The cell repair system gets blocked, and DNA cannot be repaired anymore.

The leading author of the study (Dr. Jason Wong) accentuates that the results show that a compromised NER system leads to more mutations at gene promoter sites. Many of us understand that gene promoter mutations are common in cancer development.

All in all, DNA repair is an important method when treating cancer patients.

4. What do we know about stem cell therapy until now?

Even if the method is still years away from being completed, scientists are very confident in its possibilities.

Weak differentiation and cell division are significant causes in multiple health conditions, with cancer being the most important to name. Stem cell therapies are various, and we can talk about different methods for diabetes type 1, heart failure, tendon ruptures, and spinal cord injury. There are still some pieces missing from the puzzle of stem cell physiology, which is why stem cell therapy is a new territory.

The applicability of stem cell therapy in so many aspects of our health is what makes it stand out. For instance, in 2016, two researchers developed a synthetic biomaterial able to boost stem cells native to one’s teeth. The material is expected to replace the fillings, as the stem cells will naturally help the harmed teeth to heal.

Stem cell therapy is essential for curing diseases that are considered to be incurable. Using the method for addressing lupus, multiple sclerosis, or cancer, makes perfect sense for the future.

5. What’s to say about cryotherapy briefly?

As the name suggests, cryotherapy is about cooling the body for therapeutic purposes. Easing out inflammation and pain are the most significant health benefits of cryotherapy.

Bouzigon et al.4 study in 2016 showed that the number of studies on cryotherapy’s efficiency was impressive: more than a 100 in a decade. The review concluded that cryotherapy has a positive effect on a psychological and physical level for people with rheumatoid Arthritis (PBC and WBC). People with multiple sclerosis can benefit WBC.

But cryotherapy has a positive impact on mental health conditions too.  Depression and anxiety symptoms reduced after cryotherapy sessions. The results are amazing, and the symptoms may be diminished by more than 50%. As Johnny Tabaie from the Holistic Sanctuary says, “people with depression or anxiety no longer need medication for dealing with their symptoms. Cryotherapy can give so much more help than conventional chemical medication.”

Hirvonen and colleagues took a look at the efficiency of cryotherapy for pain and inflammation. The patients took 2-3 cryotherapy sessions every day for a week, along with traditional physiotherapy. The study revealed that the patients receiving WBC experienced reduced pain, which makes cryotherapy a reliable choice for patients of multiple sclerosis and such.

6. How to describe telomere repair?

Let’s start by explaining that telomeres are little caps found at the ends of the DNA molecules. They protect the DNA molecules and make sure that chromosomes don’t end up stuck to each other; they also reduce the risk of fraying for the DNA molecules. Take a look at your shoelaces; the little plastic caps at the extremities are telomeres for the DNA molecules.

You may have heard about how a proper copy of the DNA when the cells are dividing is fundamental for our health. For reasons we still don’t know, sometimes the DNA copy doesn’t go as planned, and some genetic information is lost. To make it even more challenging, the DNA strands become shorter with every cell division.

Basically, we get sick whenever telomeres don’t work correctly, and cancer is the most “popular” to mention. The expression of telomere is high in 90% of cancers, but the growth doesn’t occur in benign tumors. As a matter of fact, the increase is only typical for specific kinds of cancer but remains high in aggressive cancer phases. In metastatic stages of cancer, scientists have also noticed increased expression for the telomeres. Naturally, you’d want to block the telomerase activity for lowering the risk of metastasis.

For the cancer patient, it means that blocking the activity of telomeres is one way to treat cancer (the results are promising for glioblastoma). But research is undergoing as we speak, and we can only hope for more applicability of the telomere repair sooner.
