9 last-minute mantras for exam

Every student has to face exams in their life. Facing an exam confidentially with adequate preparation can bring success to the student. Below are some of the mantras that every student should follow to face and crack the exams successfully, especially at last minute.

  1. Think positively and believe confidently that you will certainly face and clear the exam successfully. Don’t be afraid or depressed about exams. Know deeply in your heart and mind that exams are the cornerstone or gateway for your success, career, and future. Visualize and experience the situation about how you feel when you achieve big in the exams, the satisfaction it gives and about the rewards that are to come once you have cleared it. Stay away from negative people especially from those who have negative view about exams. Nothing is impossible in life. God has given all the strength and energy to each one of us to face and clear the exam.
  2. Have adequate food and sleep on the night just before exams. Drink water frequently and hydrate yourself. Eat fruits to keep your brain active. Avoid or stay away from junk foods, coffee, tea, alcohol and tobacco products. Keep yourself healthy to face the exams. Be sure not to go to the exams with heavy stomach. Full stomach has the capacity to make you sleepy and feel dull. Eat moderately an hour just before giving the exams.
  3. If you believe in God, Pray to Him sincerely to give you adequate strength and wisdom to face the exam. Know deep in Your heart that every sincere prayer is going to be answered by God for sure. Don’t forget to take blessings from your parents and people closest to you. Stress, anxiety and fear can cloud your memory and thinking process and can have negative impact on exam performance. So, whenever you feel stressed or filled with anxiety and fear because of upcoming exams, just try to calm yourself with the following simple breathing exercise. Breathe in slowly, deeply and calmly through your nose for a count of 8. Then breathe out slowly, deeply and calmly through your pursed lips for a count of 8. Do this exercise for 5 minutes and you will feel a sense of calmness and increased concentration. Exercise improves brain function and memory. Exercising for at least 20 minutes before the exams have been proven to enhance exam performance.
  4. Go through your syllabus and make a mental note on important topics. Go through at least past five year question papers and solve them. Many of the questions appearing in the exams are either repeated or appear in a different form. Take frequent five minute breaks when you are planning to study for long time at a stretch.
  5. Go through your note books or through popular short text books that highlight the important points of your syllabus. Revise the topics again and again, if possible. It is better to know something about every topic, than not knowing absolutely nothing. Read, read and read as much as possible without any procrastination. Try to understand what you are reading. What you understand will certainly be there in your memory for long time and will help you to successfully write your exams. During the last minutes left for exams, students should focus on reading key words, key phrases, key diagrams, key flow charts, key tables, key formulas, and key sentences of the chapters, rather than reading each and every content of the chapter. This strategy will especially help you to read and prepare efficiently for the exam during the last minute.
  6. Try to spend at least two-third of the last minute time to study on what you have already read before. Read important new topics briefly with emphasis on understanding, so as to grasp efficiently and keep it in memory. Don’t force yourself to read and understand too many new things about a topic when there are just few hours left for the exam.
  7. Don’t get distracted or get involved in useless activities such as watching television, gossiping, and using mobiles. If you are studying with like minded friends, be sure that you are not gossiping or wasting your time in any way. Make use of your available precious time efficiently. Know in Your heart that time once lost is forever lost.
  8. Keep ready of things, especially the hall ticket and identity card, pens, pencils, scale, rubber, sharpener, cardboard, and other necessary tools for the exam, the day before the exam itself. Resolve yourself that you will attempt each and every questions that are asked in the exams, especially in those exams which impose no penalty for writing wrong answers. It is better to attempt all the exam questions than to keep some of them blank. Answering all questions will help to increase your chances of fetching more marks in exams.
  9. Keep calm, and don’t discuss about the exam with anyone, both before and after the exams.

Ideally the students should start preparing for exam from Day 1 of their course. This will avoid last minute hurry, apprehension and fear of the exam. Be fully aware of the topics of the course syllabus. Be attentive in the class and grasp and make notes of all the points the teacher has lectured in the class room. Also, important is to make note of the important facts the teacher has told in laboratory, practical, clinical, or in field work sessions. Go through these notes and add some additional important points on the topic on your own after you have gone through standard text books on that topic. Learn to prepare and write your notes more in
the form of tables, flow charts, diagrams and in key words form. Read and revise these notes regularly. These notes can be of handy to you in your last minute preparation for your exams. Make a habit of writing something daily. Write, write and write, this will not only help you to improve your handwriting, but also improve your vocabulary and writing skills. Love to read and write frequently and regularly. Students should resolve to solve all the previous ten year question papers, from at least a month prior to the exams and get the answers checked by their teachers. These question papers should be ideally solved within a stipulated time to simulate, practice  and get acquainted with exam environment. This type of practice will give the student adequate strength and confidence needed to face the exam.

I hope that the above mantras will help the students to confidently crack their exams with ease.
