Harivansh Rai Bachchan
He was a noted Indian poet of the Nayi Kavita literary movement (romantic upsurge) of early 20th century Hindi literature. He is best known for his early work Madhushala. In 1976, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan for his immense contribution to Hindi literature.
Bhartendu Harishchandra
He was known as the father of modern Hindi literature as well as Hindi theatre. A recognized poet, he was a trendsetter in Hindi prose-writing. He used new media like reports, publications, letters to the editor, translations and literary works to shape public opinion. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India gives Bharatendu Harishchandra Awards since 1983 to promote original writings in Hindi mass communication.
