About
“The great challenge for the garden designer is not to make the garden look natural, but to make the garden so that people in it will feel natural”. ~Lawrence Halprin Horticulture is, at the most basic level, the science or art of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants. Horticulture impacts our lives daily by providing nutritious fruits and vegetables, offering visual enjoyment, and promoting recreational activities. Horticulture is associated with many intensive practices that collectively make up the horticultural arts. These include various propagation techniques incorporating special plant structures such as bulbs, corms, or runners; the use of layers or cuttings; budding and grafting; and micropropagation involving tissue culture.

Role Models
George Harrison Shull
George Harrison Shull- He is considered the father of hybrid corn, Shull devoted 30 years of his life to corn breeding. A botanist by training, Shull began his famous experiments at Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island New York. His experiments began in 1905 and centered on inheritance in corn. Although there are several geneticists/botanists who made contributions to the development of hybrid corn, Shull made the critical observations on the reduction in vigor on inbreeding corn and the subsequent improvement of vigor on crossing corn. These experiments provided the basis for hybrid corn.
