CAT 2017 Cutoff – The students writing CAT this year can check the CAT 2017 cutoff for IIMs and other B-schools here on this page. CAT 2017 is scheduled to be held on November 26, 2017, across 140 cities of the nation. IIM Lucknow has been given the responsibility of organising CAT this year. CAT cutoff is the minimum percentile which is announced by the IIMs in their admission criteria every year. IIM Cutoff is of two types, one being the qualifying cutoff which is released in the admission criteria and other being the actual cutoff, which is applied for shortlisting eligible candidates for PI but this cutoff is never officially announced. Thousands of candidates who will qualify CAT will be shortlisted for further rounds of admission after application of CAT 2017 cutoff. The candidates who will obtain the percentile in the exam equal to or more than the CAT cutoff 2017 percentile will only be considered for the further selection process, which will comprise of a Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).
The cutoff of CAT 2017 is determined by the IIMs after taking into consideration various factors such as difficulty level of exam, number of students taking the exam, number of seats being offered for admission etc. Every now and then, the IIMs have been releasing their admission criteria mentioning the IIM CAT 2017 cutoff percentile. Candidates preparing for CAT 2017 are suggested to go through this cutoff in order to have an idea about how much score they need to obtain in the exam. Also, they must check the previous year CAT cutoff, i.e. CAT 2016 cutoff of IIMs and other top b-schools accepting CAT score. Having an idea of the previous year CAT cutoff will help the candidates have an idea about the CAT 2017 cutoff and target a CAT 2017 score for themselves, which they must obtain in order to be considered for the shortlisting.
CAT 2017 Cutoff
At present, there are 20 IIMs, which are operating in India and more than 100 B-Schools which grant admission to various post graduate management courses. The cutoff is decided individually for different category of students and the CAT 2017 cutoff will remain on a lower side for the students belonging to reserved categories. Apart from the cutoff, the B-Schools also take into consideration the past academic record, candidate’s involvement in co-curricular activities, work experience (if any), internship experience (if any) and such other factors.
Types of CAT 2017 Cutoff
There are three types of cutoff, which are as follow –
Qualifying CAT cutoff – All the IIMs announce the admission policy and in it, they provide the minimum CAT percentile, which is referred to as qualifying percentile.
Official cutoff of CAT – The IIMs decide and apply the cutoff but they never announce it officially.
Cutoff announced by Experts – Various experts having years of experience and knowledge in the field of CAT coaching predict the cutoff mainly after the completion of CAT exam.
Difference between Qualifying and Official CAT cutoff
The official cutoff always remains higher than the qualifying percentile.
To be considered for the IIM PI shortlisting, it is important for the candidates to obtain marks in CAT equal to or more than the announced minimum CAT percentile.
CAT Cutoff 2017 – Deciding Factors
For deciding the cutoff, various factors are taken into consideration. Some of these factors have been listed here below –
Difficulty level of CAT
Previous year’s CAT cutoff
Number of candidates who wrote CAT
Number of seats offered by the B-School
Reservation norms followed by the Management Institute
CAT 2017 Cutoff (Expected)
Since the CAT exam has not been conducted yet, it is not practically possible to predict the CAT 2017 cutoff. However, seeing the past trends of the IIM admission and the cutoff, the students who aim to grab a seat in one of the IIMs must try to obtain 94 to 99+ percentile in CAT.
The candidates can check the tables given below to know the expected CAT cutoff 2017 for all the IIMs. These are last year’s cutoff of CAT, based on which the students got calls from the IIMs to attend GD/PI.

Minimum CAT 2017 Percentile
IIMs announce their admission criteria every year, in which they provide the minimum CAT percentile. This CAT cutoff is often misunderstood by the students as the official cutoff. However, this minimum percentile is the qualifying cutoff which must be secured by the candidates to be considered for the PI shortlisting. The actual CAT 2017 cutoff will remain on a higher side as compared to this minimum percentile.
Top B-Schools accepting CAT 2017 score other than IIMs
Over 100 B-schools offer admission to the students on the basis of their CAT percentile. However, every management aspirant wishes to take admission in country’s best and top management Institutes. The CAT 2017 cutoff for all the top B-schools granting admission on the basis of CAT score generally remains above 90 percentile.
The expected cutoff of CAT 2017 for some of the top B-Schools has been given in the table below here.
