Judiciary, in a democratic nation like India, is one of the main pillars. It has the duty of keeping a check on the laws/rules made by the legislative and implemented by the executive. It does so by giving verdicts, finishing disputes etc. Therefore, to deliver as complete justice as possible in India, the judiciary system comprises the advocates and judges. These are spread over around 600 district courts, 24 high courts, and the Supreme Court. Also, there are 19 tribunals, 1734 fast track courts and many Lok Adalats (People’s Court) apart from these courts. According to a study, seeing the huge pile of cases pending in different courts of the country, around 29% and 22% of the posts of judges (around 70,000 in total) in the High Courts and subordinate courts were lying vacant. Therefore, seeing the whole scenario, it is needless to say that joining the judiciary is one of the ways to gain name and fame along with a decent money. This all becomes possible when the youth of today decides to join it through various law exams, CLAT particularly.

Therefore, students aspiring to make a career in law can opt for CLAT- Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2019). Since CLAT is the entrance to Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and integrated law programs, it is one of the main law exams. Moreover, through CLAT, aspirants seek admission in the law programs like BA LLB (Hons), BSc LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BSW LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons) and LL.M.

Prior to the current year, the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi held CLAT on May 13, 2018. The university conducted the exam at 65 centers across the nation. Presently, there are 18 NLUs that hold CLAT every year. The CLAT 2019 authorities have assigned this duty to the 18 NLUs on a rotational basis. MNLU Mumbai and MNLU Nagpur are new ones to join the list to organize CLAT. Moreover, there are 25 other law schools accepting CLAT scores, besides the existing 18 universities. Hence, CLAT aspirants shouldn’t feel disappointed in case, they fail to find a seat at any of the NLUs.

Eligibility For CLAT 2019 UG Program

1. No upper age limit for UG integrated PG programs in CLAT 2019.
2. Regarding minimum % of marks for CLAT UG program:
   • Firstly, 45% for candidates of General/Other Backward Caste/Especially Abled Persons (SAP) category
   • Secondly, 40% for candidates of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe.
3. CLAT aspirants who are appearing in class 12th board exams going to be held in March/April are also eligible to sit for CLAT 2019. They only require to produce a proof of their passing of class 12th board exams, during their admission. Failing to fulfill this condition shall amount to the cancellation of their right to admission.
4. In the event of two or more students getting same marks, the authorities shall break the tie of marks following the hierarchy of rules mentioned as under:
   • Firstly, CLAT 2019 authorities will give preference to the candidates with greater marks in the legal aptitude section.
   • Secondly, in the case of marks of legal aptitude getting same, CLAT authorities will give preference to the candidates with greater age.
   • At last, in case of non-working of both the above conditions, CLAT candidature will be decided by a computerized draw of lots.

Eligibility For CLAT 2019 PG Program

1. No upper age limit for PG programs in CLAT 2019.
2. The minimum % of marks in the PG qualifying examination- LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B. (Hons.)/any other equivalent exam- have been described as under:
   • Firstly, the requirement of minimum 55% for the CLAT candidates belonging to the General/Other Backward Classes/Especially Abled Persons (SAP)
   • Secondly, the requirement of minimum 50% marks for the CLAT candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) categories.
3. The CLAT 2019 PG aspirant must have cleared the final semester/final year examination of the qualifying examination- LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B. (Hons.)/any other equivalent exam- on the CLAT candidate’s date of admission.
4. The CLAT 2019 PG aspirants appearing in the qualifying examination may submit his/her final result of the qualifying examination. As a matter of fact, it should be submitted within the limit of time as provisioned by the respective University/Institutes. Universities/institutes will provide provisional admissions to such candidates.
5. In the event of two or more students getting the same marks, the tie of the marks will be broken by following the hierarchy of rules mentioned as under:
   • Firstly, the CLAT 2019 authorities will give preference to the candidates with greater age.
   • Secondly, in case of age of CLAT 2019 PG aspirant(s) getting same, a computerized lottery will decide the candidature of the CLAT 2019 PG aspirant.

Syllabus of CLAT 2019 UG Program – Details

Following subjects and the topics therein are required to prepare for qualifying the CLAT 2019 UG Program:

English with Comprehension for CLAT 2019 UG Program: The “English with Comprehension” section tests the CLAT UG 2019 candidate’s proficiency in English. The section comprises passages and grammar. Hence, the questions in the section test understanding of the passage, its central theme, and meanings of words used therein and more for the candidates. On the other hand, the grammar section requires correction of wrong grammatical sentences, filling blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs for CLAT 2019 UG Program: Presently, the section of General Knowledge is based on the questions evaluating general awareness, covering static general knowledge. Also, it tests CLAT 2019 UG candidate’s knowledge of both national and international current affairs through questions on current affairs.

Mathematics for CLAT 2019 UG Program: Mathematics section straightaway tests the candidate’s knowledge of elementary mathematics. This includes questions up to 10th Class/Standard.

Legal Aptitude for CLAT 2019 UG Program: Similarly, the legal aptitude section tests the candidate’s interest towards the study of law, research aptitude and problem-solving ability. Also, there are questions on legal propositions (described in the paper) and on a set of facts.

Though such legal propositions may not be “true” in the real sense, CLAT candidates will have to “assume” them to be so. Then, they can answer them accordingly.

Logical Reasoning for CLAT 2019 UG Program: This section straightaway assesses the CLAT candidate’s ability to recognize patterns, logical links etc. and correct illogical arguments. Also, there is more variety to the section in the form of syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, this test does not assess visual reasoning.

Important Details Regarding CLAT 2019 Exam Centers

1. The CLAT committee will allocate the exam center to the candidate as per its will.
2. Once allocated, no test/exam center will be altered.
3. CLAT 2019 PG and UG candidates need to report to the allocated exam center on the day of the exam.
4. CLAT 2019 admit card will be having all the details like candidates’  and exam centers’ addresses, the date and time of the exam, papers-details etc.
5. Candidates are highly advised to reach the test center at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the exam.

Procedure for filling up the Application Form for CLAT 2019

The filling of the CLAT 2019 application form requires that it should be filled online only. In that case, CLAT 2019 candidates will have to access the application form from the CLAT website: www.clat.ac.in. The candidates can have their registration done at the CLAT 2019 online application webpage. For this, they will need to use their personal e-mail ID and mobile number. The candidates need to choose the tab “CLICK HERE FOR NEW REGISTRATION.” This then requires entering your Name, Email-id, and Mobile number. As a result, the system will generate a Provisional Registration Number and Password. The system will also send an Email and SMS to indicate the Provisional Registration number and Password for the candidate. CLAT 2019 Candidates have to use this Provisional Registration Number and Password to log in to fill the Online Application form for CLAT 2019.

Note: Since his/her name appears in the Certificates/Mark sheets/Identity proofs, a candidate needs to spell his/her name correctly and the names of his/her parents in the CLAT 2019 application. Though, he/she must be careful that any change/alteration found may disqualify his/her candidature for the CLAT 2019 exam.

Documents to be uploaded with the Online Application for CLAT 2019

Regarding filling the online application of CLAT 2019, for the CLAT 2019 candidates, to send the scanned copies of the candidate’s documents is the only option. Hence, the necessary documents to keep in mind while filling in the application form for CLAT 2019, are as follows:

• A front-facing, passport-sized and soft-copied, recent photograph
• A soft-copied signature of the candidate
• In the case of Especially Abled Persons (SAP), the scanned, soft-copy of the certification in favor of the candidate, proving his/her disability, is required. The disability should be certified by a competent authority.

CLAT 2019 students must submit the original certificates/documents to the allotted University (in the form and manner) for CLAT 2019. Students must do this at the time of admission to the CLAT 2019 program, as specified by the respective universities.

There is no need for the candidate to attest his/her photograph and signature while submitting the CLAT 2019 Online Application Form. He/she can fill up the required details in the CLAT 2019 Application Form and save it before finally submitting it.

Utmost care should be given to the fact that, the CLAT authorities don’t accept any hard copy of the filled in the online application form or the related documents. We advise the candidates that they submit their CLAT 2019 application form only after they have provided accurate information in that form.

No alteration/editing in the online CLAT 2019 application form can be done after successful submission /final submission of the form.

Equally important is to remind the CLAT candidates that they should provide accurate information about them. The concerned CLAT 2019 authorities can cancel provisional admission to the candidate. This they can do with immediate effect and without assigning any reason. And this can happen if they find the information furnished at any stage of the application, examination and admission process as false or incorrect. The candidatures of the CLAT 2019 candidates can also get disqualified for further admission to the NLUs by the CLAT authorities.

Again, talking of the SAP candidates, they need to upload the scanned copy of the Disability Certificate, in PDF format. The % of disability must show on the certificate. They must upload the scanned copy in the “Document Upload” section of the CLAT 2019 application form.

Regarding the requirement of a SCRIBE by SAP candidate, we inform them that they need to specify such requirement. And this they must do in the relevant column of the CLAT 2019 application form. The candidate must also specify exactly if he/she will arrange for the scribe on his/her own or will be needing one from the CLAT authorities.

Similarly, the CLAT candidate must prepare a preference order for all the 18 NLUs when filling the application form. Once the order is written in the form, you can’t change it as it’s not allowed.

CLAT 2019 Application Fee / Previous Years Question Papers’ Fee

1. The application fee for General/OBC/SAP and other category candidates: Rs. 4,000/-
2. The application fee for SC/ST category candidates: Rs. 3,500/-
3. The cost of previous years’ question papers is Rs.500/- (not included in the CLAT 2019 application fee of Rs. 4,000/- or Rs. 3,500/- as the case may be.)
4. The candidates themselves will have to bear the bank transaction charges for remitting the CLAT 2019 fee online

Mode of Payment of Application Fee

Students can pay the application fee for CLAT 2019 either online or by the online-generated bank challan.

For paying the application fee, candidates need to log in to the CLAT 2019 Online Application webpage. Candidates can pay the CLAT 2019 Application fee online by the mediums of net-banking /debit card/credit card/ pay wallet/ RuPay etc. or through offline mode by way of online- generated bank challan.

Meanwhile, students should remember that they can make offline payments for CLAT 2019 after registering themselves and generating challans online. Students must take the printouts of the online-generated challans to the relevant banks for payment. Though it is needless to say but must be reminded that, students must make the offline payments in CASH only.

Additionally, the CLAT 2019 aspirants will have to bear charges of bank transaction in an extra form, if it happens. It can happen, in case, they opt for sending the fee through net-banking or other modes of payment, including paying through challans.

Points to Take Care of Regarding Submission of Application Forms

Students must finally submit their CLAT 2019 application forms, complete in all respects and after payment of fees. They must do this on or before 31st March 2019 (11:59 P.M.) which is tentative. Authorities won’t consider incomplete application forms. The CLAT 2019 aspirants must fill and submit the application forms well in time. This is expected of them so as to avoid problems that have the possibilities of occurring at the last minute. The CLAT Office or the organizing University will in no case be responsible for any incomplete information or misinformation or inconvenience faced by the candidate, in this regard.

In addition, there is the facility of the e-brochures of the respective NLUs. The CLAT candidates can and must access them in case of seeking any information relating to them. These e-brochures can be accessed through the CLAT-2019 website.

Points Regarding Downloading of Admit Cards

From the date of April 20, 2019 (subject to change), CLAT 2019 aspirant can download the Admit Card/Hall ticket by logging into his/her LOGIN account. The candidates will need to take a print-out of this Admit Card/Hall Ticket and take it to the Examination Hall. Meanwhile, the CLAT 2019 aspirants must read the instructions on the Admit Card carefully and carry all the requisite documents to the Examination Hall.

Points Regarding NRI Seats

We advise the CLAT 2019 aspirants of the NRI/NRI Sponsored/foreign national seats, to access the e-brochures as well as the websites of the respective NLUs, for more details. Furthermore, we can say that CLAT candidates of the NRI/NRI Sponsored Category that seek admission in the NLUs, have the only option to appear for the CLAT 2019 examination. Also, such CLAT candidates can apply for only a select-few NLUs, through CLAT 2019 exam only.

On the contrary, the foreign nationals don’t need to appear for the CLAT 2019 exam and they can simply apply for the NLUs of their choice. The reason is that CLAT authorities allow only Indian Nationals/NRIs/NRI Sponsored Candidates to appear in the CLAT-2019 Examination. They don’t permit Foreign Nationals to appear in the CLAT-2019. Moreover, as is the case with regular CLAT aspirants, candidates of the NRI/NRI Sponsored Category need to submit appropriate certificate(s)/documents to the concerned participating NLUs, during their admission.

Declaration of Result

CLAT-2019 result will be published on 31st May, 20l9 (tentative) in the CLAT website (www.clat.ac.in).

Admission Process

Admission Process in CLAT 2019 will be carried out through the counseling process after the declaration of the results. In counseling, the basis on which seats are allotted to the CLAT candidates is influenced by a number of factors. The most important of these factors is the score of a candidate. Category of the candidate, available seats and the order of preference of the NLUs given by him/her are also important. Hence, considering all these factors, the CLAT authorities invite the candidates on the “merit-cum-preference” basis. This base considers the scores of the candidates, the order of preference of the NLUs and moreover, their categories, as described above. Meanwhile, the entire procedure of admission will be completed as per the CLAT 2019 calendar which is available on the CLAT website.

Other Important Information for CLAT 2019

The Information Brochure carries all the details in it, regarding intake of CLAT 2019 aspirants, reservation policies and the courses offered as well as the fee structures of various participating National Law Universities. As mentioned earlier, students can access the information brochure from the official website of CLAT 2019 and also from the websites of the participating NLUs. Therefore, the CLAT authorities strongly advise the aspirants to thoroughly go through the rules, policies and the fee structure of the participating NLUs. They must follow this before filling in the CLAT 2019 application form for UG as well as PG courses. They must also follow this for the NRI/NRI Sponsored and Foreign National seats.

The information brochure includes trivia like seat-availability, reservation policy, fee, CLAT 2019 courses offered etc. It reveals further information like the subjects taught at various levels including the areas of specialization. Though, the information contained in the brochure is very specific. Hence, for details, CLAT aspirants may take the support of the websites of the participating NLUs.

Meanwhile, we advise the CLAT aspirants to remain prepared for any unforeseen incident. Like, for example, cancellation, change or removal of a CLAT test city or center. Also, there can be an insufficient or extra number of CLAT 2019 aspirants opting to appear from a Test Centre. Consequently, the Convener of CLAT 2019 may exercise his/her rights for canceling or changing that city/center and shifting the aspirant to another city/center.

Similarly, the CLAT 2019 aspirants of the reserved category can avail the benefits by producing relevant certificates and documents. These certificates and documents must be issued by a competent Government of India/State Government official. NLUs may also need these certificates and documents at the time of admission of the CLAT 2019 candidate.

More Information on Seats

Since the rights to change the number of seats rests with the exam conducting NLUs/law institutions, the total or University-wise/institution-wise number of seats can change. Moreover, the reservation policy of CLAT 2019 exam is also changeable as per the rules decided by the concerned Government at times.

If any CLAT aspirant has filled more than one form, only last form of his/her will be accepted for consideration. In such cases, the CLAT 2019 authorities will not return/refund any fee of the previously filled application form.

Meanwhile, it is noticeable and CLAT aspirants must take cognizance of the fact that the offer for admission to various NLUs and law institutes through CLAT 2019, is provisional. Similarly, this precaution is equally important for paying attention to the changeability of the number of seats.
