A new year is here, and it is time to shed all the old habits that stopped you from being your best self. Now is the time to adopt positive, fresh techniques that will help you become more successful.
We have put together these tips for your academic self that will help you achieve those educational goals you had set for yourself!
Make a study routine
It is so essential to make a timetable or a study schedule. If you haven’t already made one, then this is your sign to do it! This schedule need not be done to the minute but needs to be something that helps you cover your studies, previous, exams, assignments etc. this can be as easy as having a routine to study your material for a few hours a day, completing assignments bit by bit every day instead of having to do everything last minute and getting stressed. It is essential to stick to the plan for this to work. But don’t be very hard on yourself if it doesn’t happen; at least you will know how much you are lagging and revise your routine accordingly. It will be best to print out your routines/schedules and keep them next to your desk in, say your, student room in Birmingham.
Be open to support and guidance
One needs to understand that asking for assistance is not a matter of shame. Wanting to become better at something you are not so good at is, in fact, a sign of wanting to grow. If you need to take tuition, then be it! This shows you are making an effort, and the results of this will always be good. You can even take classes for subjects you are good at if you want more practice. You can look for a mentor, senior student, advisor, a counsellor who can help you according to the area you are looking for help in. commit to growing as a student this year, and you are already halfway through! You can even get a study buddy, and both of you can set goals together and achieve them by pushing each other positively.
Have a good sleep cycle
Having good sleep is essential for your brain to function correctly. Neither our brain nor body responds sharply and accurately when it doesn’t receive adequate sleep, about 7-9 hours. You can do this by setting a bedtime and trying to stick to it, with some leave-way in the beginning while setting the routine. Try switching off your electronics like phones, TVs, laptops etc., an hour before bed. You can listen to meditation to help relax.
Balance studies and live healthily
Academics is fundamental; getting those good grades, getting those good marks, getting that proficiency is something every student is after. But what is also important is to let off steam once in a while. Taking time for rest and leisure becomes necessary to have a healthy balance between studies and your other life. Spend time on your hobbies, meeting friends, exploring, taking time for self-care, and looking after your mental health. These outlets are ways to recharge your body and brain to return to your studies with renewed energy.Let’s say, if you stay alone in your student studio in London, ten you can even call your friends over and a have a good time right at home, maybe even lightly discuss projects, watch a movie and have fun.
Be organised
Commit to getting more organised this year. There is always room for keeping your surroundings more organised than they were before. For example, try writing down your college schedule and putting it up on the wall of your student room in, say, Nottingham. This will make you more aware and keep track of your day and plan it well. Organising is different for different people so don’t compare yourself with anyone, do what suits you. You can get fancy planners to set up your yearly events, get a scheduling app on your phone, or even just set your books and supplies more cleanly and neatly. ‘Your surroundings say a lot about the state of your mind’ as stated by Life Coach and Mentor Ms Monica K. So make sure to have a sense of organisation around you that will give you much more clarity of mind.
Have good physical health
Keep your body physically fit because when you’re physically fit, then it makes your mind run at an optimal speed too! This year try a new sport or a fitness app, or just some home exercises that make your heart beat fast and help you sweat. This opens the pores on your body and makes your mind feel fresh and activated. Try it and see how you feel about it!
