JEE Main was conducted successfully by the CBSE on 2nd April 2017 for paper and pen mode. Around 10.2 lakh students appeared for the exam. The online paper for JEE Main is yet to be held on 8th and 9th April 2017. The candidates who are going to appear for the online exam can get an idea of the nature of the questions they are going to face.
According to the experts’ views, the paper was between easy to moderate difficulty level. However, there were not any ambiguous questions in the paper except for 5-6 questions which were framed in a bit twisted way. Less number of questions were memory based this year compared to the last year. The questions asked were more conceptual in nature. Some students find the paper tricky.
In the JEE Main this year, the Physics and chemistry portion was relatively simpler than that of Mathematics. Chemistry was found to be the easiest among all the three subjects. The students who had just relied on the Maths NCERT books had found the paper difficult. Some students also find the Maths section lengthy, the Maths questions were loaded with lengthy calculations. According to experts, the Maths paper this year of JEE Main can be equated to the level of JEE Advanced Maths paper.
The students who had done a consistent study and practice of questions would be able to score well in the exam. The weightage of the marks in the paper was shifted more towards the 12th class syllabus from the 11th class syllabus this year.
As per the expert’s opinion, there were 12 difficult questions, 53 moderate questions, and 25 easy questions. In the Physics paper, there were questions- 8 from Electrodynamics, 2 from optics and wave optics, 11 from Mechanics, 3 from Thermodynamics and Kinematics and 6 from Modern and Nuclear physics. In the Chemistry paper, there were questions- 11 from Inorganic chemistry, 11 from Physical Chemistry and 8 from Organic Chemistry. In the Maths paper, there were questions- 6 from calculus, 3 from Conics, 15 from Algebra, 3 from Vector Algebra and 3 from Trigonometry.
The expected cutoff is to be ranged between 95-105. The students should now concentrate on the preparation of the JEE Advanced irrespective of the performance given in JEE Main.
