A Mandate for CAT 2017: AADHAR Card
The 12-digit Unique Identification Number (UID) which is also known as AADHAR Card will soon be a mandate for CAT 2017 aspirants. AADHAR Card will now become an essential document for candidates appearing for CAT 2017 exam. It will act as an important identity proof for all the students appearing in Board examinations as well as all competitive examinations from the academic year 2017-18.
According to MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) and UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), the 12-digit AADHAR number will be linked to all the competitive examinations and board examinations to make a centralized ID system across the country.
MHRD has already taken the initiative to link the 12-digit AADHAR number to JEE Mains and JEE Advanced 2017. This has expedited the process of AADHAR enrolment all over the country. With this act, Govt. Of India has given an upper hand to digitization and use of a centralized identification system. The AADHAR number will be linked to CAT (Common Admission test) for admission in Management colleges, University Grants Commissions (UGC)-NET (National Eligibility Test) for Lectureship and NEET (National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test).
Dr. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO, UIDAI said that “In order to facilitate AADHAR enrolment, UIDAI empanelled agencies will help the CBSE/JEE centers for the AADHAR enrolment process. This to help the applicants who have not yet enrolled for AADHAR card number. The process will not involve any payment or hidden charges”.

Why is AADHAR Card Important?
The notion behind mandating the AADHAR card in all the exams of the country is to curb malpractices such as fraud and impersonation and thus will lessen the mismanagement in organizing the examination. This will strengthen the security and identity systems of the nation. The AADHAR card will be made mandatory as besides being a photo ID proof it also secures the personal information about the cardholder which marks his/her citizenship of India.
AADHAR card will help ascertain the right identity of the candidates applying for the examinations. The reason behind the initiative of making the AADHAR card a mandate can be understood by the following points:
- The AADHAR card incorporates the basic details of a person’s identity such as Enrolment number, Name, Date of Birth, Current Address, a 12-digit unique identification number and biometric details of the card holder.
- Every AADHAR
- The linkage of AADHAR card to make it a centralized identity proof will eliminate the use of multiple identity proofs such as Birth Certificates, Driving Licenses and Ration Cards etc.
AADHAR card linkage to all the exams across the nation will also improve the quality of the exam. While filling the application, candidates will b required to provide their AADHAR number which will automatically validate the candidate’s identity with UIDAI’s data. In case, the data doesn’t match with UIDAI’s data, the candidate will not be permitted to take the application forward. In order to avoid this, candidates should ensure that the information furnished in their AADHAR card is complete and correct. If not, they should immediately get it corrected in the AADHAR data through the official website on www.uidai.gov.in

As per a recent poll was done by an opinion site to know the AADHAR stats, out of 2400 respondents, nearly 66% of respondents did not have their AADHAR cards and to the shock, it came out that half of them didn’t even know where to apply for one!
As per the recent statistics and a press release by UIDAI, “About 93% adults in India voluntarily possess the AADHAR card. In the age group of 5-18 years, 24.3 crore AADHAR cards have been generated as of 15th November 2016.
For few states, such as Assam, Meghalaya & Jammu and Kashmir where the cards are still not issued by UIDAI, the belonging aspirants can apply for CAT by submitting any of the following documents:
- Bank Account Number
- Birth Certificate
- Passport Number
- Ration Card Number
Besides the above documents any Govt. Valid Identity proof can also be used to make application in CAT 2017.

In making a hassle-free enrollment process UIDAI has asked its regional offices to make necessary arrangement at the so that the applicants can visit the nearby enrolment or facilitation centers (list available at www.uidai.gov.in ) and get themselves enrolled for AADHAR.
