Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Exam for the post of Data Entry Operator (DEO), Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Postal / Sorting Assistant and Court Clerk.
Every year lakhs of students appear for this examination and some of them make their dream come true of becoming a government employee.

SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria 2017- Check your Eligibility
Before you start your preparation for the exam, the very first thing you must check before applying is that whether you are eligible for the exam or not.
For SSC CHSL Exam, the minimum qualification possessed by the candidate is that he must be 10+2 passed from a recognized board. Check the complete SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria here.
There are three conditions to check your eligibility for the exam.
- Nationality / Citizenship-The candidate must be citizen of India.
- Educational Qualification.

SSC CHSL / 10 + 2 Paper Pattern 2017
As you know, lakhs of students will apply for the SSC CHSL Exam, so, you must be aware of the SSC CHSL Exam Pattern and Syllabus. The exam pattern of 10 + 2 exam consists of 3 stages.
- Online Test
- Descriptive Test
- Skill Test / Typing Test
SSC CHSL Tier-1 Exam pattern
The SSC CHSL Tier-1 Exam is a Computer Based Online Written Examination. It consists of four subjects. Here is the exam pattern of the Tier-1 Exam.

- The Exam will be object type.
- The total duration of the exam is 75 minutes.
- There will be 100 questions of total 200 marks.
- There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer, o.50 marks will be deducted.
SSC CHSL Tier-2 Exam pattern
SSC CHSL Tier-2 Exam, also termed as 2nd stage exam is a Descriptive paper. This test is to check the writing skills of the candidates. Here is the SSC CHSL Tier-2 Exam Pattern.

- The paper will be either in English or Hindi.
- The paper will be conducted in pen & paper mode.
- The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter / Application writing of approximately 150-200 words.
- The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent.
- The marks obtained in Tier II Exam would be included for preparing merit.
SSC CHSL Tier-3 Exam pattern
SSC CHSL Tier-3 Exam is a Skill Test / Typing Test which differs as per the post. For Data Entry Operator (DEO) post, it is Skill test and for Lower Division Clerk (LDC) post, it is Typing Test. Below is the Exam pattern for both the above mentioned posts.
- Skill Test for Data Entry Operator
Skill test will be conducted on computer and 15 minutes time will be given for typing the printed matter in English with Data Entry Speed of 8000 Key Depressions Per hour on computer.
- Typing Test for Lower Division Clerk
Some general instructions for the exam are:
- Candidates can attend the typing test Either in English or Hindi.
- Typing speed in English is 35 wpm (10500 key depressions per hour) and in Hindi 30 words per minute (9000 key depressions per hour).
- Duration of typing test is 10 minutes only. Candidates have to type the given text message within 10 minutes only with respective wpm.
