Technical Institutes to Publish Complete Fee Structure on Their Websites; AICTE New Rules

According to the revised rules by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), all technical universities in India have to publish the complete fees structure on their official website failing which institutes/colleges will be charged double fee collected by per student. Alongside, AICTE can also decline the approval for supernumerary and NRI seats provided by the Institute for a single academic year.

As per the new norms, it has been also suggested institute’s abbreviation should not be matched with the premier institutes of country— IIT, IIM, NIT, IISc, or reputed government bodies like UGC, AICTE, MHRD, GoI.

A senior AICTE official said, “This (naming institutions along similar lines) is often done to mislead the students and they end up taking admission in such institutes.”

These norms are mentioned in a document named the All India Council for Technical Education (Grant of Approvals for the Technical Institutions) (1st Amendment) Regulations, 2017.

According to the notification issued by the  council, “The applicant shall also not use the word(s) Government, India, Indian, National, All India, All India Council, Commission anywhere in the name of the Technical Institution and other names as prohibited under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use), Act, 1950…”

These rules have been introduced to make the admission process more transparent for parents as well as for Government. Violating any of the terms may lead to strict action such as charging double fee amount from the institutes or refunding the excess amount to the respective students.
