“THE BUILDER OF MY SHIP OF LIFE”
“There is always that one certain thing or a person that shapes you into a better person and then you’re seeing life with a new outlook, you wake up every morning with a purpose and determination to make it through the day. You are proud of who you are and have faith in yourself.”
For some it might be their parents, for some their friends and for some their siblings; as for me it was Sachmaas Academy! Little did I know that stepping into Sachmaas Academy in grade 1 as a shy and introvert girl who would rather keep her thoughts to herself would transform me into a girl who wouldn’t keep quiet until she voices her thoughts! Honey Chandwani was a girl who kept to herself, didn’t have many friends, was an introvert girl and had limited her thoughts to herself. Today, she is much more than that – she itches to voice her opinion, a very strong and thoughtful opinion, in front of others; she has found a couple of true friends who have indeed been with her through thick and thin; she is no longer an introvert.
Sachmaas Academy has given me a ship to sail the sea of life – Words. “Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.” It has conferred on me the bliss of expression. Besides granting me words, it has given the gift of ‘speech’ to me. It has taught me how to put across my thoughts strongly and persuasively. In fact, I write this article today due to Sachmaas Academy. I hold this institution responsible for all the accolades that I have won in speech competitions, writing competitions, debates and MUNs. I am duly bound to her for whoever I am today! In a short span of 15 years I have grown and progressed immensely and I am truly grateful to Sachmaas Academy for that. It has given me my strength that would undoubtedly prove as my shield in the battles of life that lie ahead of me.
Sachmaas Academy taught me the essence of true Leadership – it destroyed the ‘dictatorship’ facade of leadership and made me believe that it is all about inspiring my fellow brothers to walk on the path of success as a team and not individually. It has given me my role model – Mrs. Dipti Kenia. She has held a major role in shaping me. She has taught me many lessons both of the textbook and of life. She once said, “The way to success is not straight; it has a turn called Failure; meanders called Confusion; speed – breakers called Friends; red-lights called Family; but if you have a steering wheel called Determination; an engine called Perseverance; insurance called Faith; A driver called God; you will make it to a destination called Success.” She taught me to never say that I can’t; she said that I would rather say that “I don’t want to” or that “I didn’t know how to” and she would teach me how to but never to say that “I can’t”.
Sachmaas Academy has helped me in discovering myself. It has prepared me for the hurdles ahead by teaching me that you shouldn’t limit yourself within a confined set of boundaries. I am not afraid of sailing in the sea of life anymore; I am no longer afraid to face the whales and sharks that await in the sea; I am determined to sail through the high and low tides of life. It has bestowed the power of words to me. Words are but puzzles that convey so much to some people while confuse others. It has given me the courage to face a crowd and fearlessly put across my thoughts. It has taught me virtues of perseverance, tolerance, patience, determination, leadership and confidence to sail boldly and fearlessly like pageants of the sea of life. It has given me the passion of my life – Writing and Public Speaking – that are very dear in my regard. It has prepared me to follow my dogged aspirations and be one of the stars that give glory to the human race. It has taught me anything and everything – from words like ‘cat’, ‘bat’ and ‘mat’ to the meaning of ‘self-realisation’ and ‘self-confidence’. The person who I am today is, indeed, because of Sachmaas Academy. It not only gave me confidence in myself and my actions but also has led me to a stage where people have started believing in me and have begun to have faith in my leadership. And someone once rightly said that ‘leadership’ is the key to success!
“One day words wouldn’t be able to express the gratitude you have for someone; one day you would find yourself infinitely indebted to someone; and that someone would be the person who built your ship ready to conquer the vast sea of life!”
