The Magical Lamp

A year ago, I visited my grandparents who stayed in the agricultural state of Madhya Pradesh. I planned a day for farming in our rice field which was vast. I had seen it during a helicopter ride and it was really a bird’s eye view and it was fantabulous.

From the starting day I was looking forward to farming because it was unique as I had never done it. And finally the day arrived. I woke up early and got ready with all the equipments and started farming. The day was sizzling hot and I was already feeling exhausted but I just stroke one more plough and KKKKRRNNNNN it wasn’t soil or land but it was something different. I quickly dug the ground and to my utter surprise it was a lamp. I ran and took it to my grandpa. He told it was dirty, we should wash it. On washing it became as bright as the sun, it started glittering, when I  rubbed the lamp, a big mystic figure came out. To my delight it was a” MAGICAL LAMP.” He told, “I am your servant. Whatever you will tell, I will complete it”. Now it dawned on me that it was a genie. I took the magical lamp to the villagers. I asked the villagers about their problems. The villagers told that they wanted their village to be free from thieves. The genie picked the thieves and threw them out of the village. Villagers then said, ” Dear genie, if you solve the problem of electricity, we would be really grateful. You know we face a tough time when we don’t have basic lights and fans.” The genie was sad listening to the plight but then the next second he clapped and the village was lit up brightly. Then villagers told they wanted proper sanitation, roads, education and other facilities. The genie stamped his hand and everything was in place.

The villagers were thankful to me and genie as all their wishes were fulfilled. Villagers joy knew no bounds, they were dancing and celebrating for development of their village. Their happiness is still fresh in my mind. I realized for the first time that more happiness is in giving rather than taking. My grandpa too was very happy, he gave me a bear hug and blessed me saying work like this for betterment of your country. I stayed in the village for few more days and was really happy to see that my random discovery helped the villagers to live a better life.
