UCEED 2017 Syllabus

UCEED 2017 or Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design is a national-level entrance examination for admission to the Bachelor of Design programme offered at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and IIITDM Jabalpur. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay conducts this entrance exam under the guidance of UCEED Admission Committee 2017.

UCEED 2017 Syllabus

The exam will cover the following six topics:

Visualization and Spatial Ability

Knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts, pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test, understanding of transformation and/or manipulation of 2D and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning

Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria. Ability to look at information, be it quantitative or qualitative in nature, and discern patterns within the information. Ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question. Ability to check for hidden bias or hidden assumptions and whether evidence and argument support conclusions. Data Interpretation, brainteasers and patterns.

Observation and Design Sensitivity

Ability to detect concealed properties in ordinary things, situations, people and events, and thinking critically about them. Ability to discern subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes. Applying attention to certain analysis, details, reasoning, classifying, interfering and predicting.

Language and Creativity

Reading comprehension, knowledge of English grammar such as sentence structure and usage, the use of tenses, verb pattern, articles and active and passive constructions and vocabulary skills. Ability to use and understand Standard English. Ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives, ability to distinguish innovative options and think outside the box.

Environmental and Social Awareness

History of art, sculptures and literature. Awareness of social and cultural connection with design, history of the designed artefact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. General awareness of environmental factors such as population, water, climate, vegetation, pollution, natural resources, weather etc. and their implication on the design of product, images, environment and infrastructure.

Design Thinking and Problem-Solving

Ability to understand complexity, identify problems, evaluate options, generate alternatives and select solutions. Ability to use visual analogies, signs, metaphors and symbols.
