UCEED 2018 Syllabus

Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED), being one of the few all India level entrance exams required for admission to designing courses, is conducted under the guidance of UCEED Admission Committee. Every year, Industrial Design Centre (IDC) at IIT Bombay organises UCEED exam to evaluate designing aspirants. UCEED is a passport for admission to Bachelor’s degree programmes in designing in top designing colleges in India. Students across the country, by getting into one of the top designing institutes in India, can pursue their dream of becoming a designer through UCEED 2018. IIT Bombay has recently announced the important dates to apply for UCEED 2018 exam. Aspirants can apply for UCEED 2018 from October 9, 2018. Check out the application process for UCEED 2018 here:

UCEED 2018 Application Process

Applicants can access UCEED 2018 application form by visiting the official website of UCEED i.e. www.uceed.iitb.ac.in. The last date to apply for UCEED 2018 is November 10, 2017, however, students can apply for UCEED 2018 till November 17, 2017 with a fine of INR 500/- as a late fee.

After filling up the online form, check all the information you have filled to avoid any trouble. Submit the application form and pay UCEED 2018 application fee.

UCEED 2018 Syllabus

UCEED 2018 syllabus covers various topics from different subjects. The main objective behind the exam is to check the knowledge base of the candidates and to find the most deserving students for B.Des. courses at top institutes in India. The IIT Bombay announced UCEED Syallbus 2018 on its official website. Let’s have a look at the syllabus here:

UCEED 2018 will cover the following six topics:

Visualization and Spatial Ability:

The Visualization and Spatial Ability section of UCEED 2018 requires students have a full-fledged understanding of mechanical & scientific concepts, and transformation and/or manipulation of 2D and 3D objects. The section also involves pictorial and diagrammatic questions.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning:

Another section, analytical and logical reasoning requires students to have the ability to evaluate different opinions, arguments, and/or solutions for a specific situation or condition. The section also analyses students’ ability to assess the given information, be it quantitative or qualitative in nature, and come out with a conclusion with limited information presented to you. This segment analyses students’ logical ability. Moreover, students must have the aptitude to check the hidden facts and evidence to support your conclusion.

Observation and Design Sensitivity:

As the name suggests, the observation and design sensitivity section requires students to have a capability to observe the hidden properties in ordinary situation and events. Students must have a strong sense of observation and must be able to critically examine the things, conditions and people.

Language and Creativity:

The language and creativity segment examines students’ reading comprehension, English grammar including vocabulary, sentence structure and usage of words, tenses and verb pattern etc. The section also measures students’ ability to use articles, and active and passive sentence-constructions. Students must have the understanding of standard English and ability to think out of the box.

Environmental and Social Awareness:

The environmental and social awareness includes questions on the history of arts, sculptures and literature. Students are required to be aware of the social and cultural connection with design. Students should also have the awareness of environmental factors such as the population, pollution, climate, water and natural resources etc. and their implication on the image design, infrastructure etc.

Design Thinking and Problem-Solving:

The design thinking and problem-solving section measure students’ aptitude to understand the complexity of the situation, observe the circumstances, identify problems. Students must also have the ability to use the visual analogies, signs, metaphors and symbols to come out with the solution.

UCEED 2018 Exam Pattern:

Mode of Examination: Online mode

Number of Questions: The test will have total 80 questions of maximum 300 marks.

Type of Questions: Type of questions in each section will vary from each other.

  • Section A will have 20 questions of Numerical Answer Type (NAT).
  • Section B contains total 20 Multiple Select Questions (MSQ).
  • Section C contains 40 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).

Number of Sections: 3 sections (A, B and C.)

Exam Duration: 3 hours

Marking Scheme: Each correct answer in Section A will carry 4 marks, Section B carries 4 marks for each right answer and for Section C, 3 marks will be given for each correct response.

Negative Marking: There is a negative marking of 1 mark in section C only.
