Physical education is an educational training through which we learn to take care of our body. It helps to gain physical fitness and strength. Secondary and high schools provide physical education courses, also known as physical training or PT, to their children. Physical education includes physical exercises, any type of sports, yoga, running, etc.
The basic differences between physical training and sports are: In any sport, there is a limit of participants and any one member or team needs to win. Unlike sports, there is no winning or losing in physical training. All children can indulge themselves to exercise their bodies.
Why is Physical Education Important?
Physical Education is as important as Education. The word Physical Education states itself as an integral part of Education. It creates a deep understanding of our body. It is important to start educating children about physical education at an early age. One of the best ways children can learn about the benefits of physical education is if their schools take proper steps to encourage and promote PE.
CBSE School in Sharjah is one such renowned organization in UAE that is a strong proponent of the importance of PE. Fostering holistic well-being, they emphasize that apart from physical fitness, exercise also helps students gain more concentration power, social skills, communication skills, team skills and organizational skills. All of these, ultimately boost students to excel in academics and all other fields.
There are so many academic subjects that a child stops learning about in his future and chooses to specialize in only one subject. He can omit academic subjects from his life if he wants, but he cannot omit his health. Health is the most important factor to stay healthy and make progress.
How can Physical Education be Taught in Schools?
As it is said, it is important to start educating children about physical education at an early age. And, school is the best place of learning for any child. Ways to teach physical education in schools are the following:
- It is important to have a fixed class for physical education in every curriculum. A minimum of 30 minutes per day for elementary students and a minimum of 45 minutes per day for high school students is necessary to be physically active.
- School authority needs to appoint a trained physical education instructor. It is important that students learn proper exercise techniques instead of making mistakes.
- To make physical education interesting, the physical instructor can bring a variety in physical training. Such as, some days could be for karate, some days for yoga, some days for gymnastics or any other sports. Karate is specifically great for both physical fitness and self-defense.
- Both teachers’ and parents’ support is important. Teachers, as well as parents, need to encourage them and provide the children with information about their sport or physical activity.
- Physical education could be an alternative career option. If parents and teachers understand that and help the students to grow in their students then there will be a good environment for physical education in every school.
- Teachers and parents also need to focus on students’ proper nutrition and a healthy diet. Without proper diet and nutrition, it is impossible to continue physical training effectively.
These above steps are mandatory in order to maintain a healthy environment in every school. Among the broad list of schools in Sharjah, one such institution is Sharjah Indian School that has gone the extra mile to encourage optimum student participation in physical education.
