Why translation is important for educational institutions

This era of technology and rapid advancements in every field has turned this world into a global village. While technology has managed to decrease the distances between people and places, there still remains one major barrier; language.

Travelling around the globe to fulfill the various necessities of today’s world has become a norm. People look forward to studying their desired courses in different countries, they move out of their homelands in order to chase their dreams. The best is often not found in the comfort zone of a person and so, they intend to go as far as need be to pursue their goals in life. While technology ensures the feasibility of travelling out of one’s country, language acts as a huge barrier. A university, for instance, might be providing the best course in a very affordable cost, but the course will be taught in only a specific language that many people may not speak and understand. This robs a student off of an amazing opportunity and forces them to settle for less than the best, for less than what they deserve.

When talking about education in particular, it is important for a person to understand each and everything clearly in order to make sure that no information is lost and the concept is truly understood. This requires an extraordinary command and proficiency in the language to ensure that nothing is left out while translating something and that it is both said and understand in the required manner.

As we talk about education, many pupils are of the opinion that anything that is being taught is easily available in a textbook and textbooks can be bought in various languages, hence, the concept will be understand and there will be no problem regarding this. However, that is not the truth of education in a classroom. Not everything can be found in text and even if it is, one can never be sure about the way something is being conveyed and therefore, the entire meaning of a text can differ from what is originally being taught. Besides, there are practical instructions involved in education which cannot be overlooked. If instructions and commands are not clear, there will be lesser chances for any student to excel in their field of interest. It is therefore important to translate everything according to the understanding of the various students of diverse backgrounds to make sure they can make the most of the opportunities provided to them.

Examinations are a huge part of the education system. After all, is what provides an overview of a student’s understanding, therefore, it is extremely important for examinations to be fair. Examinations cannot be fair in the presence of a language barrier. Without translation, oversea students of different linguistic backgrounds will simply be left to a disadvantage which is a massive injustice to any hardworking pupil. Not only is it important to give the students the opportunity to appear for exams in which they have good proficiency but it is also important that the papers are translated in a manner that makes the same paper in every language equally comprehendible. This would allow for educational institutes to judge the abilities of all its students in an efficient manner.
