Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is an all India level exam for the admissions in the MBA courses of Xavier School of Management. XAT is conducted every year by XLRI, Jamshedpur. XLRI, Jamshedpur is considered as one of the elite institutions in India that impart the best management education to the students. In fact, the XAT scores are considered by many good MBA institutions for taking admission in the management courses in India.
XAT 2017 was conducted in January in 2017, and around 1 lakh students appeared for the test. The total seats offered by XAT is 180. This shows the level of fierce competition that the students face in XAT exam. Therefore, it becomes inevitable to prepare well for the exam and to know about the exam pattern in detail so as to crack it with the best scores. Let us analyze in detail the XAT 2017 paper so that the aspirant of XAT 2018 would get help in preparing and making a perfect strategy for the coming exam.
General Interpretation of XAT 2017:
The XAT 2017 was taken in two parts. Part one comprises of three sections while part two comprises of two sections.
Part 1- Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, Verbal and Logical Ability and Decision Making.
Part 2- General Knowledge and Essay
Overall the difficulty level of the XAT 2017 was high. The candidates found the Quantitative Aptitude and English Language sections very difficult to solve. The pattern of the questions was a bit diverted from the previous year papers.
Part 1 Analysis:
1) Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation-
27 questions were asked in this section. The level of the questions asked was between moderate to difficult. Some questions asked were tricky in nature and required a good understanding of the concepts. From Data Interpretation section, eight questions were asked which were difficult to solve. The must solve questions were from the topics arithmetic, time-speed-distance, geometry and progressions. 14-16 question in this section considered as a good attempt.
2) Verbal and Logical Ability-
24 questions were asked in this section. The level of the questions asked was moderate. The questions asked in this section were somewhat challenging. The Reading Comprehension (RC) questions were lengthy, and the non-RC questions had confusing answer options. 12-14 questions in this section considered as a good attempt.
3) Decision Making-
21 questions were asked from this section. The level of the questions asked was between moderate to difficult. The questions asked in this section were easy but tricky in nature. The objective of these type of questions is to test the ethical aspect of the candidate. This section was easier as compared to previous year. For the preparation of this section, a lot of question practice is needed. It is very important to understand the nature of the questions asked. 10-12 questions in this section considered as a good attempt.
Part 2 Analysis:
1) General Knowledge-
The pattern of the question asked in GK were same as always with a mix of current and static portions.
2) Essay-
The topic of the essay was “Globalism and Jingoism always Coexists”. The essay paper checks the ability to understand the things happening around. This paper needs a lot of practice.
The students who had prepared well for the paper were happy with their performance. The students who are aiming to attempt XAT 2018 can make their preparation strategy accordingly with the help of this analysis.
