Definition
Surgery is a technology consisting of a physical intervention on tissues. As a general rule, a procedure is considered surgical when it involves cutting of a patient's tissues or closure of a previously sustained wound. Other procedures that do not necessarily fall under this rubric, such as angioplasty or endoscopy, may be considered surgery if they involve "common" surgical procedure or settings, such as use of a sterile environment, anesthesia, antiseptic conditions, typical surgical instruments, and suturing or stapling. All forms of surgery are considered invasive procedures; so-called "noninvasive surgery" usually refers to an excision that does not penetrate the structure being excised (e.g. laser ablation of the cornea) or to a radio surgical procedure (e.g. irradiation of a tumor).Career Path

Pay Package
- Like in any other field the remuneration in this field depends on qualification, experience and area in which one works. One could get an initial pay of ₹35,000 to ₹70,000 per month.

Anil Kohli
Anil Kohli- He is an Indian dental surgeon, medical administrator and a former president of the Dental Council of India. He is an elected fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and holds the honorary rank of 'Brigadier' in the Army Dental Corps. He is a recipient of B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian award in the medical category. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honor of the Padma Shri in 1992 and followed it up with the third highest civilian honor of the Padma Bhushan, in 2005, for his contributions to medicine, making him the first dentist to receive both the honors. He is a former Dean of Dentistry at the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and an adjunct professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Marthanda Varma
Marthanda Varma- An Indian cardiac surgeon, he was an erstwhile President of the Indian National Science Academy and National Research Professor of the Government of India. He was awarded the Padma Vibushan in 2005 for his contributions to health technology in India. He was made a Chevalier in the order of Palmes Academiques, an honor bestowed by the French government, in 1999. He received the Dr. Samuel P. Asper International Award from the Johns Hopkins University Medical School in 2009 for his contributions to international medical education. He has served on the faculty of the Georgetown University Hospital, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and as director of Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology.
