CTET Guide
CTET is an online exam that is conducted over a span of 150 minutes. Firstly, it is good to know the correct exam pattern of CTET.
Paper 1 of CTET is made of 5 parts, namely, Child Development & Pedagogy, EVS, Mathematics and two sections of Language 1 and Language 2. Most of the times, Language 1 and Language 2 is English and Hindi respectively. Paper 1 is conducted for those who want to teach students from Class I to V while Paper 2 is conducted for those who want to teach students from Class VI to VIII.
Paper 2 of CTET is for Maths and Science teachers. It consists of Child Development & Pedagogy, the two sections of Language 1 and Language 2 and MCQs on Mathematics and Science.
Paper 2 of CTET is for Language and Humanities teachers, which consists of Child Development & Pedagogy, the two sections of Language 1 and Language 2 and MCQs on Social Science.
There are 150 questions on paper and each question carries 1 mark. There is no negative marking, but candidates should not attempt the questions in a hurry as they might lose out on marks this way. A good approach is to solve the questions that you know for sure first. It will increase your confidence and secure some marks easily. If you don’t know an answer, use the elimination method to eliminate the incorrect answers and you will be closer to finding the correct answer.
Strategy for subjects that are common to both CTET paper 1 and paper 2
Child Development & Pedagogy (CD&P)
You have to solve 30 multiple choice questions. This subject intends to check the knowledge of child psychology of a CTET candidate. After all, it is the child who is going to listen to the teacher. Revise the important topics like development stages of a child, special needs of a child and the most important topic is to revise the thinkers and their thoughts. Every year, probably 5-8 questions are asked from thinkers and thoughts.
Hindi Language
Paper tests on 30 multiple choice questions. In the Hindi section, there will be one Reading Comprehension, and one Poem passage. Other questions are asked from Hindi language and grammar. The best way to prepare a Hindi section is to read NCERT from Class 1st to 10th.
English Language
Similar to Hindi, again 30 multiple choice questions are there. In this section, 15 questions will be asked from the sections of Reading Comprehension and passage of a Poem. Remaining 15 asked questions are of English language and grammar. The best reference to prepare English section is to read NCERT from Class 1st to 10th. Strengthen your vocabulary, learn 10 new English words daily.
Even after this strategy, you may consider coaching classes to excel in CTET. The better CTET Scores you have, the better you are in demand among top schools. Therefore it is always a good idea to be mentored by someone who is already in business and has made dreams of many come to life.
