Have you been wondering how nature crafts the living beings and all the plants around us? Would you like to conduct a few scientific experiments related to imitating the things that we all know about? Would you like to learn science through simple experiments? In this article, we’ll talk about a few experiments that you can repeat at home. You won’t need any unusual materials or the ones that you cannot find anywhere.
You can use any list item from the 100 topics for research paper writing as there isn’t any limit for conducting experiments. It’s always good to know the theory, but it’s always better to see it in reality. So scroll down to view the guides and get ready to do it yourself.
A skeleton of a leave
You will quickly learn how to create a beautiful and elegant skeleton of a regular leaf from a tree.
To conduct the experiment, you will need:
- Large leaves
- Sodium carbonate
- A deep metal bowl
- Tweezers
- A brush
- Some water
You will need about 40-50 minutes of your free time to complete the experiment.
Let’s start the experiment
- Add 20 grams of sodium carbonate to the metal bowl. 20 grams is about ¼ of a tablespoon.
- Pour 1.5 liters of water into a bowl. Dissolve sodium carbonate.
- Heat the mixture on the stove.
- When the liquid starts to boil, remove it from the fire.
- Take the leaves and gently drop them into a bowl with a hot liquid.
- Wait until the leaves absorb the mixture, it’s about 30 minutes.
- At the end of the time, take each sheet carefully with tweezers out.
- Gently wash the leaves with cool water.
- Use a brush to gently remove the remains of the leaf from its skeleton.
The result
As a result, you will get a “leaf skeleton” that is a complex pattern of hollow veins. The veins serve as a veinlet system that provides food and water for the rest of the cells. When the liquid was absorbed into the leaf, it protected the leaf veins from water, but the remaining cells easily retired, thereby forming a skeleton.
The lungs: imitation
What do you know about your lungs? Their main job is to maintain the life of a person by supplying air to the body. Unfortunately, most of us do not pay much attention to the lungs. In this experiment, you will create your own model of the lungs from a few simple materials.
To conduct the experiment, you will need:
- An empty 2-liter bottle
- A plastic bag
- A thick gum
- A balloon
- A piece of straw
- Some plasticine
- A masking tape
- Scissors
- You will need about 30 minutes of your free time to complete the experiment.
Let’s start the experiment
- Cut a 2-liter bottle in two halves. We’ll only need the top of the bottle.
- Cut a large square from a plastic bag. Do not worry that the edges are not even.
- Put the bottle upside down on the table, place a square polyethylene on it and stick it with an elastic masking tape.
- Cut off the extra edges of the package.
- Place the straw in the balloon and fix it with tape so that it can be blown into the straw, and the air enters the balloon and the balloon is inflated.
- Place the ball through the hole in the bottle and stick it with plasticine.
- Fold a piece of a tape in half sticky sides to each other, leaving the ends open. Attach the tape to the plastic bag.
- Use the tape that you just attached as a handle, pull it slightly down and watch the process.
The result
You just built a model of a lung from simple material. The polyethylene bag below works like a diaphragm that expands and contracts forcing your lungs to fill with air, and then release it. The action of the balloon coincides with the actions of the lungs. When you breathe, the lungs fill with air as well as the balloon does. When you exhale, the air leaves the lungs, the same happens with the ball.
The conclusion
There’s one thing that we want to warn you about. Once you conduct one or two scientific experiments, it will be very hard to resist the temptation to conduct another one. So watch the things around you and try to imitate them. And you will see how nature is working hard maintaining the things that seem to be too easy from the first sight. But this is so only before you try to imitate them. Check out, Interactive Fictional games for English Learning.
