JEE 2019

The Joint Entrance Examination aka JEE is a competitive exam that provides admissions to the aspirants in the premier engineering and technological institutes (mostly controlled by the government) of the country. By and large, the JEE 2019 exam is divided into two components – JEE MAIN 2019 and JEE ADVANCED 2019.

The first part of the exam i.e. JEE Main lets students seek admissions for the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and some other colleges designated as “centrally funded technical institutes” (CFTIs). The JEE Advanced does the same but more strictly filters in candidates for IITs only or the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. Hence, students whose goal is to seek admission for the IITs only must prepare for this part of the JEE which internationally is taken as one of the most demanding UG admission tests.

In September 2013, a notable development took place when the IIT Council gave its consent to the Joint Admission Board’s decision to carry on the two-phase JEE pattern – Main and then Advanced. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducted the joint admission process for a total of 23 IITs, ISM, 32 NITs, 18 IIITs and 19 other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

As per a recent ruling of the Supreme Court of India, the Aadhar Card remains no more a compulsory requirement to apply for and take the exams. Hence, candidates need not take stress for acquiring the Aadhar card. If they have it, it’s better and they may mention it at the time of applying for the exam. But, if they don’t, they need not worry about it as it is no more a compulsory feature.

JEE Main 2019

There are 2 papers in the JEE Main 2019 and the candidates can. They are Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 of JEE Main is for the candidates who want to pursue B.E. or B.Tech. courses only. The JEE Main exam is given by the responsible authority in both online and offline modes. Paper 2 is for the candidates who seek admission in the B.Arch and B.Planning courses. Paper 2 of JEE Main is conducted offline only.

JEE Main 2019 is greatly different from JEE Advanced 2019. JEE Main 2019 has been regularly conducted on fixed schedules every year since its start and no major changes have been brought to it. Paper-1 of JEE Main 2019 is of three hours duration and consists of thirty multiple-choice (single-correct) questions in each of the three subjects- physics, chemistry, and math. 4 marks are allocated for every correct answer and 1 mark is subtracted for every wrong one.

In determining the JEE Main all India ranks, there was a time, when a 40% share was there. This 40% share consisted of the marks obtained in class XII. But that was from 2013 to 2016. It’s no longer in use.

JEE Main 2019 – A Short Description

Unique Features of/Changes in JEE Main 2019

• The exam conducting for JEE Main 2019 will be the new entrant by the name of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and will replace the earlier CBSE.
• NTA has given a huge relief to the students suffering from diabetes. The board has permitted such students to take fruits, sugar tablets and drinking water bottles inside the test hall, along with them.
• 4000 additional candidates can now apply for JEE Advanced as the number of candidates eligible to appear for the exam has increased to 2,24,000 from 2,20,000.
• Students appearing in the JEE Main 2019, need to provide the digital or scanned copy of the signatures of their father/mother or the guardian.
• The students from Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli have been provided an extra choice of taking the exam in the Gujarati language. This facility has been there apart from the options of taking the exam in English and Hindi languages.
• The number of exam center cities has gone up to 258 from 113 last year which is almost twice.
• The number of CFTIs participating in JEE Main 2019 has increased from 20 to 23.
• Enhancing the anti-copying measures, the NTA has decided to scan the candidates with metal detectors. The feature has been introduced to prevent students from taking any modern electronic devices into the test hall for the purpose of copying/cheating or working out the sums/problems unfairly.
• While paper 1 will remain as the computer-based test (CBT), only the “Drawing” section of paper 2 will be conducted on the pen and paper based mode.
• From this year of 2018-19, the NTA will hold JEE Main for two times in a year- for the first time in the month of January and in the month of April, for the second time. Candidates are free to appear either in any one of the occasions or in both of them.
• The criterion of age limit has been revoked by the NTA from the session of 2018-19. Hence, candidates of any age, are free to take JEE Main 2019.
• The NTA has established around 1.5 lacs of the Common Service Centers (CSCs) across the nation to help both the rural and urban candidates fill and submit the application form. Also, it is not going to charge any fee for it.
• NTA has decided to open the JEE Main 2019 Test Practice Centers at 2,697 schools and colleges. These centers will remain open on Saturdays & Sundays. Only, the candidates need to use the NTA app to locate their TPC. The NTA will not charge any fees for the facility.
• NTA will arrange for the system to formulate individual question paper for an individual candidate. Hence, no two candidates will have the same question papers. Also, the paper will have a hierarchy of questions based on easier, medium and difficult levels. This all the NTA is going to implement with the help of latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence.
• The biggest attraction in and onwards the JEE Main 2019 exam is that NTA will prefer the better of the two scores of the exam. These scores will be the marks that the candidates will score through the January and April versions of the exam. Hence, it apparently looks sitting in both the versions of the exam will benefit you more.
• Meanwhile, NTA has also decided to conduct paper 1 of JEE Main via multiple sessions spread across various dates across the nation. But, for paper 2 candidates will take the exam via a single shift with a capacity of 2 lakh candidates for each session. The total sittings for both the versions of the months of January and April will amount to 8 in number.
• As for the total number of cities giving test-centers to the candidates, it has increased to 264. But, internationally, it has decreased to 9. Also, the venue of Dhaka has been removed from the list.
• As per a recent ruling of the Supreme Court of India, the Aadhar Card remains no more a compulsory requirement to apply for and take the exams. Apart from the 98 institutes mentioned already – 23 IIITs, 31 NITs, 23 IITs (including ISM Dhanbad), 20 GFTIs, and IIEST Shibpur, there are some private colleges and institutes from some states, that allow admissions to their B.Tech programs through JEE Main 2019. Such states are like Haryana, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.

Details to Fill the Application Form for JEE Main 2019

The time-limit for filling the application form for the 1st attempt is from September 01 to 30, 2018. For the 2nd attempt, it is from February 08 to March 07, 2019. Candidates need to upload their photographs as mentioned below, after the process of filling their personal and academic details. There is an option to choose any one mode of submitting the application-fee – either through e-challan or through online mode. Corrections in the application form can be done from October 08 to 14, 2018.

The admit card is available through online mode only for the registered candidates who have submitted their form, filled properly. The card is an important document that you will be needing. There is a total of 264 cities in the exam-centers of which the JEE Main 2019 is going to be conducted. Out of these 264 cities, 255 centers fall in India and, the remaining 9 are located outside the country. Earlier, the CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) used to conduct the counseling for the JEE Main. But the authorities have brought modifications to the counseling procedure. The JAB (Joint Admission Board) and the CSAB have decided to jointly conduct the counseling for the two exams of the JEE. Both the boards will counsel under the name of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).

It will be useful to let you know, though, that only a small fraction of students who take the test are able to qualify the exam and take the counseling sessions. This counseling has three divisions of central counseling, state-specific, or category-specific counseling. The students need to attend the sessions according to the groups of these three divisions. The students gain the seats according to their ranks on All-India basis. Counseling is also conducted for the SC/ST candidates and the physically handicapped among them. The first two days of the session follow this program. Afterward, the physically handicapped students belonging to the Open (OP) category, are counseled.

According to the directives issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), out of the total number of seats available in the NITs and CFTIs, 50% are reserved under the Home State Quota. The remaining 50% of the seats are allocated for the “Other State” students or the “All India” students. The program of the counseling for JEE Main 2019, will go according to these directives.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding JEE Main 2019

• Is Aadhar card mandatory for applying for JEE Main 2019?

Ans- Though Aadhar card has been provisioned in order to check and prevent the possibilities of fake or pseudo candidates, it is optional. Using it will enhance the security of your taking of exam in the sense that no fake candidate will think of taking the exam in place of you. Hence, it’s completely upon you to either use it or not, but we highly advise to use it.

• How to change the mode of examination, if a student feels such a need?

Ans- If a student feels, he/she can move from the Pen and Paper mode to the CBT (Computer Based Test) mode. But, the vice-versa of the case i.e., from the CBT method to the Pen and Paper method, isn’t possible.

• What solution is there for the candidates who opted for the Hindi/Gujarati medium but later on wanted to take the JEE Main 2019 exam in English medium?

Ans- Question paper of the exam is in all the three mediums of languages – Hindi, Gujarati, and English. The candidate is free to answer in any language that he/she feels comfortable in.

• Is it compulsory to take both papers of the exam – Paper 1 and Paper 2? can’t a student take any one paper of the two?

Ans- Though there is no such rule to take both the papers, it’s compulsory to go for paper 1 if the student aims to pursue B.Tech./B.E. course. Similarly, for the candidates who want to pursue B.Arch., they need to take the exam in paper 2, compulsorily.

Paper 1 and 2 are mandatory in the case of the candidates, who want to pursue the course of B.Arch., along with B.Tech.
